Colt Combat Commander mildly customized. Grip safety replaced with a beavertail style, throat and feed ramp polished and very mild trigger job to just smooth things out. Only thing left to do is have a better set of sights installed. Probably Novak night sights or something similar. I shoot it fairly well as is even with the microscopic sights Colt puts on the pistol.

When I carry a 45. It’ll usually be my colt 1991 or the Ruger, SR 1911 and a Galco FL 212 holster.

You guys with short 1911s: Have you had any trouble with them feeding/digesting hollow point ammo? If so, how did you remedy it?

Some 1911s just don't feed well with hollow point bullets. Working on the feed ramp and tweaking the lips of your magazine may help. I have 2 1911s, one just a basic govt model and one scandium bobtail that both feed everything I shoot out of it but on the occasion it does fail to feed it is with a hollow point. That being said it doesn't happen enough for me to call it a problem. Keep it lubed up. Also how you hold it when you shoot can be a factor. Lots of things contribute and I by no means could call myself a 1911 guru.

Anyway I generally carry a Smith and Wesson scandium in public as a concealed weapon. When I fish in rattlesnake county I carry a stainless Sp101 due partly to getting it wet should I fall in the water and I keep a few snake loads that I load myself. When I hunt or ride in the sticks I carry my Redhawk 45 colt in a Diamond D chest holster and usually have my shirt over it to protect it from dust. I guess that's considered concealment.

Firestar .45 with 2 shot extended Magazine. Short, heavy, accurate. I still just use the super-vel or hydro-shock ammo.

I prefer the extra 4 rounds in my 30 (10vs6) to saving less than 1/8" in width.
PS - I think the none vote was for the 9mm guys.......

Years ago I wanted to carry a 45, but wanted something small enough to readily conceal. I bought a Kimer Ultra II. Beautiful little gun, super comfortable in my hand, but prone to constant FTE and FTF. Despite a few trips back to Kimber for "repairs" this gun was totally unreliable. At the time it was the most expensive pistol I had ever bought, and I just could not trust it as a carry gun and did not want to keep it just to admire its looks. I think it was the inherent problem of having a 3 inch barrel that would not all for proper recycling. After selling that Kimber I moved to 9mm as my carry caliber.

I understand. I think (it’s been years) that’s why I sold it because wasn’t familiar with detailed maintainence.

I had the same issue with my Kimber Ultra Crimson carry II! I bought it off a friend as a jam-o-matic and messed with it for a number of years and got it ALMOST trustworthy! ALMOST just won’t do so I sold it off and lost my buns on it! It would run aluminum cased ammo the best! It didn’t run very well with brass cased ammo! I had sent it back to Kimber once and they improved its function but still not good! I was going to send it back to Kimber again but they told me it had been too long since the last time! Most expensive handgun I’ve ever owned and the biggest loss on a gun I’ve ever sold! My SR1911 is spectacular so far and it loves all the aluminum ammunition I bought up for the Kimber! Live and learn......

Oldy but goody..... Star PD.... just about Walther PP size.... tremendously under-rated and under appreciated. Long out of print but reliable and accurate, too. Here they both are side-by-side ( against Walther PP)
...the one in the NiB (Nickel-Boron) finish is the Star PD.....

Don't carry a 45 ACP any more . Arthritis is kicking my butt. Sold my S&W 4516 and 4506. These days usually a light weight scandium j frame or a plastic 9mm

Nice - I had an early Detonics. It was a great gun but LNIB and flawless so to valuable to carry. My wife is still mad at me for selling "her" gun.
