Execution

Either or. Depends on the type of murder. Crime of passion, no. Murdering an infant? Poke him or cook him. Again, murdered a helpless infant. No sympathy from me.

By the way, I KNOW this is a very serious subject- I do.
However: "The Lawyers argued that he was allergic to the drugs administered during a lethal injection"?
Sorry, but I'm still laughing. Everyone has an allergic reaction to lethal injection. What-he's gonna get hives too? They won't bother him for long.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Justice is best served piping hot.

I know a lot of Americans are glad we have our system of coddling criminals. The result of this is rampant crime with no fear of the consequences.

I prefer the system in Singapore. Canings, prison, and execution are applied without years of litigation. The result is crime is almost nonexistent.

The people who are soft on crime like to say "What if it was you who was wrongly convicted? You'd feel differently then." Well, they are wrong. If I were to be wrongly executed, but society was peaceful and free of crime, my death would be worth it.

I just don't see many people willing to die for the good of society since WWII ended. We're in the age of selfishness.
Well, don't expect me to be happy to die for the good of society. Society should not expect that from anybody. And that doesn't make me or anyone else "selfish". As a matter of fact, that has to be one of those most bizarre things I've read today - maybe ever. Good grief. Remind me never to vote for you for anything. Double good grief.

Then you have the folks that argue capital punishment isn't a deterrent. When I hear this stuff I just ask one question. Name one person who has been executed that ever committed another crime? It's 100% effective. Plus if you actually use there are going to be some who figure it just isn't worth taking the chance and don't commit the crime. Problem is, there's no way to know how many crimes you have prevented. Only the crimes that have been. But I imagine if we, as a country, started executing murderers, rapists, kidnappers, pedophiles, etc. without decades of legal BS we'd see a decrease in these crimes. Not today, cuz you have to convince folks you are going to carry through. But give it a year or two with regular public hangings and the word will spread.

I am one of those that thinks it's not a deterrent... there might be some theoretical situation where it was but it's really like trying to prove a negative. I'm conflicted, not that I don't think we should have the death penalty, but in how we actually value human lives... part of me like most of the world see it as very sacred and valuable but then I think there are a few humans that are a total waste of the life force and would be better served if made into fertilizer.

Long ago the liberals polled men on death row and asked them (paraphrased) if the death penalty was a deterrent to murder and invariably inmates said they would kill anyway. IMO that's nonsense.

IF the death penalty were arrived at with irrefutable evidence like eye witnesses, forensics (DNA, video etc.) and immediate capture at the scene AND there was quick "justice" per the sixth amendment "the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial" AND the punishment was swift meaning not decades of delays with offender sobbing about THEM being a victim of society, I bet it would be a deterrent.

Not only that some things are for certain... capital punishment in the cases above DOES prevent repeat offenders, does supply relief to family members of the real victim, and relieves society of the need to support killers for their entire life.

PS, this trend for offenders to attempt to kill police officers has gotten out of hand. I for one do not think that a police officer has some "duty" to capture those who fire on them alive. A "Judge Dredd" officer mindset worldwide would IMO stop that. Try to kill a cop? You're dead.

Some might say this would only make perpetrators more desperate, really? How much more desperate can you get than firing and attempting to kill police officers?

The biggest problem with out current system is that it allows for an endless stream of appeals to various higher courts. The law should limit the convicted murderer a single appeal, and limit the time period in which the appeal can be filed. Something like 90 days to file the appeal, which includes any and all reasons that the defense believes that the guilty verdict was wrong. Then the court should also have a time limit in which to render a decision. In this way, the execution will be within a reasonable time following the guilty verdict, like six months.

As to the means of execution, I understand the distaste some have for the electric chair, and even for hanging, where problems may occur and the person not be killed quickly. I think firing squads offer the best balance between certainty of death and minimal suffering of the POS being executed. Family members of the victim should be given the option of serving on the firing squad.

Personally I don't care if a murderer has reformed themselves in prison. The punishment should be appropriate for what they did, not who they are.

When this thread started,, I knew there would be a lot of discussion.

To this hillbilly,, it's a simple thing.
As noted;
If we apply the death penalty,, we are assured that criminal will never commit another crime.
The death penalty is both a deterrent, and a punishment. It's a punishment for the crime committed by the criminal,, and if the media & all would bombard us with the facts of when a criminal was put to death,, it would sink in to many that if they commit a crime they will possibly get put to death.

Now the educated hillbilly sees it a bit deeper.

The problem lies in the fact we aren't parenting OR,, being allowed to truly parent a child anymore.
If a child touches a hot stove after being told not to,, they learn first hand that it'll burn you.
If you take a child who misbehaves AFTER being told once that they will get a spanking,, then you actually do spank them,, they learn to not do things once told not to.
If you take a teenager who commits a petty crime,, and actually punish them,, WITH PUBLICITY about it to their peers,, they will quickly figure out they don't like that.
Basically,, start young with methods of punishments and kids grow up learning that there are consequences for their actions.

My mom & dad gave me my fair share of spankings, switchings, & the belt enough that I grew up learning right from wrong,, good from bad. I decided I didn't like punishment,, so I didn't become a criminal.

Likewise,, praise & rewards for doing right & good teach a kid that it's better to be that type of person.
Work hard, & get good pay, and you earn things.

Now,, I'll be the first to admit,, that no matter how much you try & teach some kids, or teens to NOT be bad or whatever,, some people are just evil, and refuse to do right.

Those types need strong & severe punishments for crimes.

This includes being put to death for many crimes. In some cases,, yes,, a life sentence is a better alternative. That would allow the possibility of a convicted criminal to potentially prove their innocence.
But when a person kills young, defenseless kids,, no matter why,, they are the very type that needs execution. Susan Smith drove her care into a pond with her two little kids strapped in & drowned them. That *&(%^#(* POS of a waste of human anatomy should have been drowned herself. Twice. Subermerge her until she almost dies,, revive her,, then do it again. Revive her,, then tell her,, "That's the feeling each of your kids felt. Now it's your turn,," and do it a 3rd time to completion.

I have ZERO compassion for a waste of POS who does harm little kids & kills them. I'd gladly pull the switch, pull the trigger, beat them with a baseball bat, or whatever, and sleep peacefully.

Sadly,, our society has been slowly taken over by the very same young liberal types that were getting indoctrinated in the colleges in the 1960's & 1970's,, who fell for the argument that prison was bad, that the death penalty was wrong, and that everyone could be rehabilitated. They are now tenured professors at colleges, or in politics or whatever.

They didn't want to be punished for their wrong-doings,, and they felt superior to others,, so they slowly took over.

We are in a mess, and it'll be a very hard lesson for the Country eventually. (It already is on a smaller scale. But it's getting there.)

In Oregon all death penalty cases go right to the Oregon Supreme Court for review. That review covers both the trial record and all evidence. I think it's a proper review and all states or federal death cases should do the same.
I believe there are cases that the death penalty should be applied. I know this because I was there. Some cases the death penalty should have been applied but was not. It was not because of cost or personal beliefs.
I think Oregon is on its 3rd governor that said they will not allow the death sentence to be carried out. That's a slap in the face of the victim's families/friends, courts and juries.
Many say it's no big deal the convicted killer gets life in prison instead of the state executing the killer.
But then this happens, the last 2 Oregon governors have released a bunch of lifers for different reasons. They were released when the courts and juries said they needed to serve life. Another slap in the face of the justice system and the families of the victims.
Lastly a jury conviction in a criminal case need not be 100% known for sure the person did the crime. It's beyond a reasonable doubt.
A review of the case as in Oregon will go beyond just reasonable doubt. If they have reasonable doubt the sentence can go back to lower courts or drop the sentence to life. Either way they say there might be a problem, the case is reviewed again back down at the trial level or appellate level.

Jay Inslee [Gov. Wa. State]was considering releasing Gary Ridgeway during the covid plandemic...not kidding.

Cops come in different flavors, just like regular folks do....Myself, if someone tried to kill me, I tried to kill them first. That's just how it always worked for me, no talking, no negotiating, no thinking about it, I didn't care about color, age, gender or circumstances, just do it....
One reads a lot of BS on these forums that gets put forth by the uninitiated. One of the most prevalent being that if one hasn't been in such and such situation, that they can't know what they'll do until the time comes. Horse hocky, they better dern well know. Either that, or quit play-acting, put their gun(s) away, and save 'em for using at the range...Especially if they have a family that is depending on them for protection. Defense of one's self and family is serious business, and needs to be approached in a serious manner. Either that, or just own up to the fact that you don't think you can so your wife and children can make other arrangements.

Our Constitution garuntee's Us a speedy Trial by a Jury of Our Peer's. I hav always been a huge Proponent of the death penalty. And I have always been for Public executions as well. Hanging would be my preference. In case's of mass shootings, acts of terror, heinous crimes where there is not a question or doubt of guilt, the execution would take place 30 days after the guilty verdict. School shootings as well. In public and televised. We are a civilized community but when crimes are serious enough they have to handled in a way to be a deterant to others with those thoughts

As I've said before and I think even here the real problem is lawyers and some of them even become politicians. Who loves to debate this issue more than us? Lawyers and they get paid to do it, over and over again.... the whole justice system is designed to feed lawyers...

I was invited many years ago to a breakfast function for a organization here in Greenville called a child's haven where they look after pre-schoolers during the day that are in really bad and poor families... the speaker that morning was a youth judge and he pointed out something quite interesting... he said that it was obvious to any thinking person that what the child's haven was doing would not help all these children then he said it if stopped just one child from growing up and killing someone that would save the state a minimum of 2 million dollars...

How many times did someone try to kill you and what were the circumstances?

that everyone could be rehabilitated. They are now tenured professors at colleges, or in politics or whatever.

Funny you should say that.

True story I've told before!

I was at a black tie affair and as usual groups of people stood around chatting and in a group next to me a woman said that she believed that child molesters could be "rehabilitated" and I LOUDLY said BS!

All conversation stopped within earshot and she went on that she was a psychiatrist and assured me that these demons could in fact be cured, and asked me if I were a physician, or other medical professional.

I told her I was in electronics but could PROVE to her she was wrong and she laughed and told me to go ahead.

I said, I see you're wearing a wedding ring and I CAN tell you something about your husband, he's either a leg, boob, butt man or he's gay. Given he IS one of those with the proper amount of therapy could you make him prefer one of the others?

She stuttered, the crowd laughed at her and as she turned to go I asked what her thesis was about.

The small crowd laughed again :-) NOT SORRY!

I used to be a proponent of the death penalty but I have changed my mind. Life without the possibility of parole is much cheaper than lining the pockets of the lawyers on both sides of the crime.
I tend to agree. Making these dregs celebrities for decades before finally giving them an easy, quick and painless death is frankly an abomination to the victims families.

My thoughts, keep in prison, make them suffer. Something like making sand out of boulders in Death Valley in the summer and make crushed ice out of icebergs in Alaska during the winter. Make em suffer like their victims and victims families.

But If we have to have the death penalty, Here’s my plan. Put them in a cell, weld the door shut. The cell is one big trap door floor. Below the cell is a continuous heated pot of boiling oil. Next to the cell door is a timer. A computer sets it from 10 to 365 days. It ticks loudly. But the criminal can’t see the timer. they have no idea how long they have. But continuously, they hear that timer of doom, and when the timer trips, the trap door flips and they fall to their doom. As an added bonus, before their conversion to a crispy critter, they get to hear their fellow convicted criminals scream as the trap door trips and they fall into the boiling oil.

That will really make a fellow think before he goes into a life of crime.

I think they should bring back the old-fashioned firing squad. Tie them up against the pole, give half of the squad members a real bullet and the others blanks so nobody knows who really fired the killing shot. Then let the firing squad to go at it
Several states still have the firing squad as an option to the "inhumane" death by injection. I say drop a 2 ton Acme safe on them in a field and let the safe bury them right there, oh well.

Where's that murdering road runner when you can use him? meep meep!

Anyone familiar with guns can tell the difference between firing a live round and a blank.

Does anyone remember that turd that died his hair orange and shot up a theater in Aurora Colorado? He was caught, admitted his guilt, showed no remorse, was convicted of murder (11 counts IIRC), and was sentenced to death by a jury of his peers. Is he dead?

Hell no. After sitting on death row for several years, one of Colorado's libturd governors commuted his sentence to life in prison. And there he sits today, living comfortably on the taxpayer's dime.

BS!!!!

I think if a governor wants to commute a sentence, then he/she should serve the original sentence themselves. It's not fair to the families of the victims or to the taxpayers.

Personally, I would take convicts sentenced to death and give them weekly cainings until they begged the court to be put to an immediate death.
Request granted!!!

No, I'm not cruel. I just care more about victims and their families than I do about evil scum and their families.

I am for the death penalty. But, being fair and generous play survivor with the guilty. Like this picture I put up before about defending against wildlife:

Harry-Wolhuter-lion-skin-and-knife.jpg

Stick him in a lion pit with Simba and the same type of knife. If you can kill the lion with the knife you live. Don't say it is impossible because a man named Harry Wolhuter already did it in the past. Hey, you have a weapon that can kill a lion which is more than what your victim had...

The people who are soft on crime like to say "What if it was you who was wrongly convicted? You'd feel differently then." Well, they are wrong. If I were to be wrongly executed, but society was peaceful and free of crime, my death would be worth it.
I agree with whoever it was that said "It is better that a thousand guilty go free than one innocent be..."
