That gate has probably sold a few articles, makes him more "legit"in paranoia circles. He's respected by many of those whose opinions I respect. Yet I get this huckster vibe.

To answer the OP. Let’s just say I carry often enough that my wife doesn’t do the eye roll any more. I explained once that my carry rig cost more than her wedding rings, why wouldn’t I wear it all the time. I could have made a better comparison.

Meh. I don't have a home that looks like a target for home invaders. I have two 20+ year old cars, no burglar looks at my little house and those cars and thinks, "Yeah, he has cash and jewelry."

yea I thought the exact same thing , old truck .Till one night a 20 something kid who lived with mom around the corner .got high on LSD according to the Police and his girlfriend later . 10:00 at night i heard some one at my front door as as I watched tv .i walked over looked thru the peephole .and i saw him lift his leg up and start kicking my door in . i ran to bedroom told wife call 911,I grabbed the shotgun .police came arrested him .they said he high on LSD and thought dragons was chasing him .He busted the door frame 17 inches long. and thru the regular lock and it went to side of deadbolt lock .itt only thing kept him out of house ,had to replace intire door frame and door ..after that I carry whole time iam home soon as i get up till I go to bed.It can happen to anybody .and not just thieves .

I have talked the talk and walked the walk since 1995. My constant companion, when seconds count law enforcement is 20 minutes away at best. When our current Sheriff was elected his advice was obtain a concealed handgun permit and carry because we are at least 20 minutes away.

Maybe you have, maybe you haven't. Have you testified in court against organized crime? Paranoia can be justified pretty easily. Ever had death threats against you or your family? Ever come out of court or after a resolved case and find a note under your windshield wiper? Ever have a picture of your kids at day care included in a threatening note when involved in a ORC case? Paranoia or living in reality and bein prepared?

I am thankful that I don't live in a place where I would feel the need to be armed 24/7.

Be thankful you were never put in a position to have the need. I don't live in that type of area. But......I've worked in those areas, and had that element follow me enroute to my area, which is pretty rural compared to theirs. I've had to take a different route home at times after being confronted on a highway with guns pointed at me, had to call home and tell the Wife to grab the shotgun, go downstairs, call the Borough PD to hopefully show at house and hold, until I could shake them. Those days are for the most part over....but I carry when mowing the grass and still worry. Glad I don't travel anymore and I home every night.

Nah, it's paranoia. I lounge about in gym shorts or sweat pants. I'm not wearing a gun belt with that.

As I said before, you do you. If I get killed by a home intruder, you can say "Told ya!" but I'll never know.

So do I often when home. But I'm prepared just in case. Paranoia can be justified for some. Mostly those who didn't become accustomed to a softer life either by choice or handed to them.

Yup. Just got another. Dogs are eliminated as easy you can be, if not easier.

Parts of my conversation will closely mirror those made by Yaworski. I live in the country but right beside a state highway. There is a frontage road off the highway and then us and two neighbors that are within a 100 yards of each other. Nothing blocks our houses from visibility of the highway, so I think it makes it a little safer than those with blocked vision, in other words anyone can easily see what's going on from the road and I feel about as safe as I could be. I never carry in the house, I made a pact with my wife, never any loaded guns in the house. If I ever do have reason to feel threatened I will have a revolver with ammunition laying beside it. My only time I was nervous was if someone was stranded on the road and would come to the house to use a phone. That scenario is pretty much eliminated now because everybody has a cellphone on them and they can call for help. I do have a carry permit but I got it primarily to eliminate an issue if I'm driving to or from a gun show and have guns in the passenger compartment, I am now legal.

To guys like XUSNORDIE, it isn't paranoia if there is even a remote chance they are out to get you. If you have never been in a situation where the threat is real, count yourself lucky. It's darned stressful. It will effect every aspect of your life and all of your relationships.

I do carry at home, but mostly outside while wandering the property. Inside is more casual, and crime here is almost non existent. Nonetheless, there are guns close by in every area of the house ready to go, and even some outside the main house. You never know where you might be if trouble comes knocking. By the time someone gets past the dog pack, they will be in my sights. God help them if they harmed the dogs.

Thinking about it, I hadn't narrowed it down this far and probably thought it was a coincidence but if you get one of the NRA magazines, a very high percentage of stories told under the part of "the mere presence of a gun" part an extremely high percentage take place at people's home. It makes sense to me. I do carry at home, I don't know what I'm going to run into when I go outside the house.
I live in a smallish, safe town, and it could be probably more likely a loose dog, moose or bear, or who knows, and it doesn’t matter if you are prepared.

Yes, I 'carry' in the house. One on my belt and 2 other handguns within reach of both computer chair and recliner. Others can do as they wish but I'm seldom beyond reach of a firearm of some sort.
This isn't a 'high crime' area but I see no reason not to carry.
You have a car? If so, do you leave it in the garage and hitch hike to the grocery store?
You have 'inside plumbing'? If so, do you go squat under a bush rather than use the stool?
It's there, so why not use the option?

I always have a mini .22 revolver in my front pocket, so generally have it on me even in the house, until I get my comfies on in the evening. Then it is sitting on my dresser, unless the grandkids are there. Then it is in a locked box along with another, which I can unlock in about a second. I've never felt it necessary to always have a loaded gun within arm's length of me.

I also have a chocolate lab, who I'm sure would gladly die for any of us (especially my granddaughter). His most effective weapon is a loud bark, and he isn't shy at all about using it. I live in a small farm town on a residential street, and he will let us know every time anyone walks past on the sidewalk. I don't mind that at all because he is also letting everyone outside know that there is a big loud dog in the house.

No. Too many grandkids and great grandkids running around the house just about everyday. Heck I don't even like to carry while I'm out in public anymore. When I do it has to be open carry because of the way I dress. Don't wear much during the warmer months and I spend a lot of time at the beach.

I sometimes carry at home...but we live on a small ranch here in Wy. I almost always have a firearm handy. We live in a fairly remote area at the end of the road. I am not too paranoid...about the only person that comes up here is the mailman UPS and Fedex person. We have an extra revolver in the vehicles (RIA 38 Sp ) for when we come home. Not great but if they can find 'em in the car or truck we haven't lost much...and better than a pocket pistol

30 years in the alarm industry convinced me that a full perimeter alarm system with CCTV etc is far better than any firearm. And if you do not want to invest in one for yourself, wife, kids. For God sake do it for your dogs. Seen enough of them, shot, bludgeoned to death, beaten , poisoned etc. I have never seen a dog yet that can call the police, fire dept or rescue.

Hmmmm forgot about the shotgun....I have my mountain bear gun loaded for the house...M1 Super 90 Benelli. AR style stock...extended mag tube. 1st round is a AA trap load followed by a whole crap load of No 4 buck...10 rounds in under 9 seconds The trap load is for shooting them in the face,.....if they can't see you...they probably won't hurt you. For grizz...10 rds of slugs will probably do the trick. One of the most reliable semi autos I've ever shot

Funny my wife tells me the same things. I obeyed all of her commands but the neighbors started complaining so I use the bathroom for the latter now.
