Did I make a mistake passing on a flattop 44?

This past weekend I passed on a 6-1/2” flattop 44, unconverted, price was $700. The gun has been used but not abused, some holster wear and a turn line but was in pretty darn good shape.
Did I make a bad decision at 700? I was set at $650 and question if I should have walked over 50 bucks!

I remember walking on a Remington870 LW 20ga, 3" in 99% cond over $50. That was 10-12 yrs bak. Still remember that DA move!!

Sad deal ….. in the long run that $50 probably wouldn't have stood between you and bankruptcy. Been hard to pass on that one for me. If you were $100-plus apart …. Different story; maybe.

Please don’t ask me about the Mini 14 I passed on because of it’s oddball .222 caliber ~ or the 5.5 inch stainless Redhawk mint condition that I stupidly thought was $100 too high at $500 several years ago. My gun regrets are on stuff for reasons unknown to logical man I passed on.

I thought I made a bad decision, only reason I passed was I had several thousand worth of bids in that I wasn’t sure if I was going to get. Turns out I got none of them! I’m going to try to get a deal done on the 44 tomorrow morning when they open back up if it is still there.

I only have ONE old model. I would love to have more. I would've paid that especially since it's a Flat Top Old Model 44 Mag. But that's me and not you.
For big purchases it's good to think about it for at least 24 hrs. and ask advice. Then decide if it's a 'go' or 'no-go'.

Don't feel bad. We've all done it. Just a couple of years ago I passed on a Marlin 1895 45-70 that was in great shape for $395.

That moment of stupidity haunts me.

I bought a NIB pair of those about 20 years ago, one blue and one stainless. I sold them fairly soon after acquiring them, then almost immediately regretted it. I think I got $600 for the blue and $650 for the stainless

Well, I called as soon as they opened up this morning and he still had it! I pick her up Saturday morning. There is a Very fine M77 284 Win there also that might follow me home! If it had been a RS model it would have already been in the safe.

You got lucky that it was sill there! Congrats on getting that one. Two months , I picked up a super clean Blackhawk 3-screw .44 with serial number in the '147nn' range which dated back to 1959. It had come in that morrning and if I would have walked away it would have been gone.

BTW, you got a better deal that I did!

Regardless of the price, that is a wonderful gun to own. Many of my guns were not bargains, but they were guns I wanted. Little else mattered.

All that really matters is if YOU are happy with the price. I've bought guns (for my collection) that if I told others what I paid they probably would have said "You paid way too much for it" but I was happy with the price so I really don't care what others think.

That is a fact! I have a Model 600 350 that I severely overpaid for but I wanted it and the other guy that wanted it and was bidding against me wasn’t going to leave with it no matter what! Showed him! lol
I knew better than to walk on that 44, especially after the auctions ended and I didn’t own that sexy Supergrade Winchester!
I was relieved it was still there!

There are a few that I kick myself for not buying. If it makes you feel warm and excited, buy it! Walking by, to go back later is a big mistake!

I paid a little more than I wanted to for an 80's vint NM Blackhawk 357 shooter but the fact of the matter is I could never find one for the price I paid at my LGS and the seller has a fantastic reputation. I would joyfully pay 700 for an old model flat top 44. Congratulations on your new acquisition!

I picked up the 44 FT today, appears to be a 1962 model by the Serial Number. Seems to have an honest life of being carried and not shot much. Glad y’all talked me out of my mistake, dealer said he had a guy come in after it the morning I called and had him hold it for me. I’m happy with it!
