Your Holy Grail

Just a silly old scratched up Single-Six. I'm in the owner's will..............

An original Ruger prototype would be my holy grail. Examples of Ruger prototypes can be found in Don Findley's book and John Dougan's book. These are truly one of-a-kind guns. Especially when you have the drawings and paperwork establishing the process for that particular prototype. Most are in collections now, however from time to time they do come along. And they don't come cheap. In most cases prototypes will demand big money.

I'd like to find one of the "Turkey Gun" barrels for my Remington 870. This was a 20" barrel with a vent rib and looked just hella cool. I think Mossberg still makes such a gun (I already have two of those) but I want it on my 870 too. Oh yeah, it would have to be affordable, like $100 or so. (I might be able to scrape up $150. Heck, I only paid $165 for the whole Mossberg Turkey Gun.)

My holy grail gun is an M77 MKII Express in .300 Win Mag. I've been after one for years and have never yet been in the right place at the right time. If anyone knows of one that's for sale I would appreciate a message.

My only Grail gun is a Bren Ten, for no reason other then I grew up with Miami Vice. I got my hands on one at a gun show in the early 90's and I should have beg borrowed or sold enough to bring it home.

I've got via dad a P85 prototype that was evaluated by herb glass, All the documentation etc. But almost nobody cares about P guns

Contender and RR both share my feeling of our Holy Grails changing. I just found one grail this past week. They sit right next to my #1's.
I had always wanted older Savage 99's now I have two.
The 300 Savage 1951 Model

And the 303 Savage 1906 model

I'm not sure of the next grail coming but tomorrow is a new day

One of mine would have to be a S&W Model 25, 45 colt w/ 5" barrel. Also a Ruger Mark II w/ 10 barrel. Another would be a mythical Ruger long action LH model 77 with a take down feature and three barrels: 300 H&H, 35 Griffin & Howe, & 375 H&H. Another would be a brace of LH Model 77 RSIs in 30/06 AI and 35 Whelen AI. TD

My Rugers are all working girls. I appreciate the unfired new in the box, but I like to shoot, and lack self discipline when it comes to shooting ANIB guns. A shooter grade Hawkeye, with brass and dies would be mine. I just never have the money when I see one. I can still see that one in Shaeffer Bros. gun case way back when. It got marked down and down again, and again. Went off to college and when I came home on Christmas break it was gone. I swooned over that gun nearly as much as I did over some of those long forgotten girls in miniskirts. Well not really that much, but I forgotten those girls but not the Hawkeye. It would have been my first Ruger.

ANY AND ALL RSSE'S, HANDS DOWN.................... 8)

HOWEVER,..............I do recall an engraved 256 WM Hawkeye that I saw and held, The Outdoorsman, Hopkins, Mn(any of your remember the infamous Keith Rolfe?)in 1983.....Was priced at $895 and had a single extra D/T hole in the top strap. I contemplated it, but walked away. One of my friends later bet me a rather large amount that it was a factory engraved piece. I asked Rolfe, many times, to go back thru his FFL records to get more info on the gun. He never did so and now has gone on to the Big Gun Show, so Rusty and I will never know...........I owned a RSSE at the time, so I am confident that the engraving on the Hawkeye was not Charles Jerred's......... :)

My interest has waned over the past couple of years, but there's still an M77 flatbolt in .338WinMag out there with my name on it.
