Your Favorite Bisley, and Why

I'm a Ruger Bisley lover. I only own a custom 6-1/2" and a factory 7-1/2". But I would like to have input on why you like a certain Bisley that you own. Please include caliber, barrel length and favorite handload, if possible. And, of course, pics! I will hopefully use your input for reference in my future Bisley purchases. Thanks for your input.

Ok Flatgate, I'm guessing that is a single-six with a 6-1/2"bbl, correct? I absolutely love my 6-1/2" Bisley.

Bisley Hunter in .44. It just "feels" right...handling it, shooting it. Love to have a Bisley SBH in .44 with a 4.62 in. barrel or a Bisley hunter in .357(wishful thinking!).

I have two.
First is the 7.5" Super Blackhawk Hunter that seems to be partial to the 240gr Hornady XTP over 23.3 of H-110 load.

Then, there's the 4.62" Bisley Flattop Blackhawk in .44 special.
I'm still developing a load for it. So far, the 180gr. XTP/5.8 gr. Titegroup combo has been showing decent accuracy.

335 gr. LBT's at 1200 fps hit things pretty hard! If I need a bit more power then I step up a wee bit......

Ruger4Life: Thats what I'm talkin' bout! Using the .45Colt to its full potential, or close to it. Heavy loads are what the .44 and .45 are all about. Chills down my spine!

I really, really like the BISLEY. I converted several 5.5 inch SUPERS to BISLEY almost 15 years ago...I used them and a pair of 5.5 inch guns with DRAGOON grip frames for a couple years. THEN I got interested in VAQUEROS and BISLEY VAQUEROS, first 44s and then 357s.

Sooo my favorite is either a blued or stainless BISLEY VAQUERO, with a 5.5 inch barrel, in 44 and rarely a 357. I've got a few more VAQUEROS with either a DRAGOON or HUNTER grip frame...and even 7.5 inch barrelled 44 magnums. The only thing close to the BISLEY, for me, is a gun with a HUNTER grip frame and a SUPER BLACKHAWK hammer.

I know the adjustable sighted guns are a lot more practical for a lot of things, but I like the looks and feel of the Original Size VAQUERO.

My Bisley is a .44 magnum that originally had a 4-5/8" barrel on it. I got a 7-1/2" Vaquero barrel off of eBay and had that installed. I use mine for cowboy action shooting and I shoot Magtech 240 grain .44 specials out of it.....

I have several but this is one of my favorites. Bisley Vaaquero with long rebored Max cylinder to 45 Colt, octagon 5 1/2" barrel, Clements adjustable sights, CCH by Turnbull and musk ox grps by Roy Fishpaw. Ben Forkin is the gunsmith who put it together for me.

This one by John Linebaugh in 475 is a close second, at least this week! :lol:

Yup, the Ruger "Hunter" (round trigger guard full sized Super Blackhawk) grip works quite well for me until I step up the horsepower a bit then it's time to shift over to a "locally" made gun :D

Nothing real fancy here. Just your basic stock 45 Colt Bisley. Happens to be my favorite. Its a great shooter.

My favorite is this .45 Colt Bisley Vaquero to which David Clements did some work for me. It's action is like butter and Cary Chapman's ebony grips fit my big hands perfectly. It's just fun to shoot.

My favorite handload has yet to be determined. Currently, I'm using 255 grain SWCs over 6.8 grains of Trailboss at the range. For "walking around" I generally use commercially manufactured 300 grain "Ruger only" loads.

Ok, first was one of the original 7 1/2" 45's, cut to the barrel engraving. Sold when the baby came.
Then a "fixed" sight 22. Again sold for something else.
A current 5 1/2" 44 Special traded for a trap gun. Both of the last two unfired.
Wish I had those last two back.
Now have an adjustable sight 22.
The one I want Ruger hasn't built....5 1/2" 22 convertible.

This one! I like to remember each step along the way as it evolved from a standard 4 5/8" Super Blackhawk. First grips, ejector and Power Custom half-cock hammer/trigger kit. Then came the Bisley conversion with Hogue grips. Also pulled the barrel and sent it to Clements to remove the warning. Then I finally decided to send it to Clements for finishing off with a Bowen rear sight, custom post front, lanyard ring, roundbutt and refitting the grip frame. Grips in american holly by CLC. It's nearly perfect, although I think I may eventually have Cary do another set in ivory micarta. I shoot it very well, even better than its longer brother. It's also very accurate, piling its favored load into 2" at 50yds. Even though no accuracy mods were done.

Lipsey Flattop Convertible with Bisley conversion. American Holly grips. I still have a small amount of frame fitting on one side and I'm waiting on a Belt Mountain basepin. It looks like it wants to shoot as well as my .45 Accusport Bisleys and that's a tall order. Time will tell. Nothing fancy about this piece but it sure feels good in hand.

An early model 45 colt with a 7 1/2" barrel blue with undercut front sight and larger base pin. Shoots where you I point with 300 grain hard cast lead over 9 grains of Unique. The clincher is the fact that my lovely wife purchased for me. I think she was tired of me drooling in the shop over it!
