Jules, If you shoot .44 magnum, it is no problem to turn down older brass to .44 Special length.

Anything I have in 44Mag that starts to split at the case mouths, I stick in the trimmer and turn down to spl. lenth

With the radical difference in lenth of the spl and mag brass, I have never gotten them mixed up.
