A friend of mine just went out and bought the commander for 800 bucks plus FFL. I was surprised b/c I thought that the SR1911 can be had for a little less than that if you look around. He didn't necessarily want the commander, as opposed to the other but he just went ahead and did it. He's younger (newly married, both working...), has more fluid cash than me (single-income, with stay-at-home wife/mom of four kids)...so maybe price-shopping isn't his thing.
 
I wouldn't, but that means nothing. If I was spending $800, I would have spent $650 on the gun and $150 on beginning reloading supplies.

$650 is the Max. I would pay for one, guess some people have enough money they don't have to shop for best price.
 
Good call. I was thinking in the 6's somewhere.... I didn't mention the price I thought he could've got it for.....
 
This guy saw it at our (high-priced) LGS. Said they'd come down 20 bucks. :) Came back the next day, and gasp!, it was gone. So he went home and bought one on gunbroker.

His anniversary is still 4 months away (it was an anniversary gift from his wife).

Patience will pay off, buddy! Just like in hunting!
 
My daughter purchased one for her hubby for valentines day. Cabela's price $799. (they had 3 in stock)
Until supply meets demands, I don't think you are going to see them much cheaper.
The only other one I have seen, in person, in the last 2 months was $849 at a gun show, the next show 2 weeks later, the dealer had already sold it.

But then I've seen guys paying $2000 for a sub $1000 AR, and $30 a magazine for Thermolds.
 
I paid $800 for my SR1911, it was the first one I got to handle and it was less than the Springfield Armory models the dealer had. It took a long time after they came out to get to handle one and I grabbed it. Every day carry I totally trust and it is acurate and great trigger out of the box. I would have had to pay $800 plus for anything else this nice
 
Yep, if I saw one today local for $800, I would buy it just to make sure I get one.

I paid $750 for my first full-size SR1911, which was a little more than they go for now, but if I'd passed up that first one, I would have waited a long time to get one. My time is worth something.

Just paid $800 for one yesterday at Cabela's. Was happy to pay it. They said it was the first and only one they had got in. Had been under the glass for about two hrs. The last full size one I saw at a show had a very firm $850 tag on it. Cabela's had one of those too, $770. Say what you want about Cabela's prices. It's not uncommon to see them cheaper than many local dealers on new/hot items.
 
And just that fast, I found one today at Cabela's for $800. I convinced them to give me a forty-dollar discount, so I paid $760, and I am pleased.

I could have waited, and driven a lot more miles, and eventually found one for less, but that could have been a many-month wait. I am now pleased, and it's every bit as nice as my two full-size SR1911's. :mrgreen:

When the guns are scarce on the ground, dealers can charge MSRP and people will buy 'em for that. Or maybe the dealer can come off $20-$50 and make folks feel like they have a deal. With most of Ruger's common offerings though, you'd be foolish to pay MSRP because they typically sell for much much less than that.

Methinks Ruger has taken a lesson from the Colt handbook on how to keep market price high on their 1911s. Only let a couple out every month, and people will pay MSRP or close to it just to get one.

You boys that are paying $600.....I believe you and all, but around here an SR1911 for under $699 would be like a pink unicorn sighting....
 
I doubt Ruger is doing anything like that. Ruger is in the business of making money, and to make money you need to make as many as you can, and that is exactly what they are doing. They only make what they charge for the gun, they don't get more if a dealer rips off their customers.

Soon after the full size was introduced Ruger tripled their 1911 production & went to 24 hour schedule to keep up with demand. They are doing everything they can to make them.

I have plans for a CMD when I get one, but I'm not frothing at the mouth (yet).

Average price I have seen around here 2 shops one in Athens and one Huntsville, both full size and commander $699, cash $649 bought mine in Athens last Feb paid $699 because of lay away. I'm in Athens by the way. You may or may not know there is a new shop here in Athens, Craigs open now little over a year same pricing as LE gets. Lately everytime I go in they have some in stock.
Last Sat. Craigs had the CMDr in stock $699.

Been meaning to get out to Craig's. I do some business over at Athens Guns every now and again. You'd think Larry's would get more of them in, seeing as how they're like the top selling Ruger dealer and all...
 
Craig's has been open I'm guessing about 15 months. I think he was affiliated with Athens Guns. He apparently has money impressive inventory. He is in the Strip Mall Hwy 72 east and Lindsey lane. He is giving LE pricing across the board, all employees are very knowledgeable, and unlike Larry's they make commission nice people. I haven't been back to Larry's for over a year, because of a trade i wanted to make, same with Bradley's, Craig's traded. On lay-away he will work with you, if more time needed. I bought my SR1911 from him that way, picked it up week after lay-away.
 
I paid $799 for a 1911CMD Sat. and am happy with it.Higher than I wanted to pay but they are hard to find in this area.Since I made a killing on a Glock 17 and some of those "evil high capacity Glock mags" a week before I figured a little extra on something I wanted is OK.
 
I had been looking for one for almost a year, walked into my local LGS a year ago Feb. I didn't even ask price I bought it, and it was $699. Now a year latter and knowing what I know about it and the quality I would pay $999 today, I'm not alone, many others would do the same.
 
There is a Large LGS in Goldsboro, NC called WT's has both the SR1911 and SR1911CMD for $1195 :evil: and a special Edition SR1911 for $3995 :shock: I walked away shaking me head.........................
 
I paid $725 OTD each for my CMDR last week ( I bought 2) here in the great northwest and was happy to do so. They are very scarce in this neck of the woods.

Just before SHOT there was a post by a guy on another forum that Ruger had come out with a Commander size. He was in Alaska and bought two. The thought was Ruger would show them at the SHOT show. Of course they were not on the Ruger web site. I called a few gunstores I shop at and got "Huh", to "We don't have any yet." to "Is that the new midsize? Yeah, we just got one in." I told the fellow to stuff it under the counter and I would be up within the hour to buy it. It was $669 by the way. Very nice gun.
 
I paid $750 + tax for my CMD. While $800 is on the high side of acceptable, you have to keep in mind the current state of gun affairs. Shops are hard pressed to keep any inventory except for oddball stuff and traditional hunting longarms. Handguns of about any variety are in high demand. Add in the demand for SR1911's over almost two years now and $800 may not look so bad.
