I was looking at Underwood's 255 gr. LFN hard cast which is rated at 1000 FPS.
Would this be a safe load for new Colt type SA and Ruger New Vaquero .45 revolvers?
Thought I had read where the original Colt loads were for a 250-255 gr. bullet at 900 FPS.
So this might be the limit for these revolvers?
It is not listed as a +P load.
I have a New Vaquero, Uberti 1873 lever rifle and a Taylor's Running Iron pistol I would on occasion be shooting these rounds through.

I have shot a bunch of same power loads in my New Vaquero's and mid framed Blackhawks with no problems at all...and they are still tight.

A quick look at a load manual will tell you that bullet weight and velocity alone do not tell you what the chamber pressure level of a load is. There are loads that exceed those parameters with far less pressure and those that will launch the same bullet at a slower speed and give higher pressures. Without knowing the powder used it is just a WAG.
I suggest a call to the maker and ask what the pressures of that load are.

Don't rely on my word. But I've read a lot of articles on it.
Here's one http://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/PDF/HL%20246partial.pdf
I'll try & find the others & post them also
I don't know what the pressure is of the load you listed is but pretty sure it's not above 20,000psi

I talked with Underwood and they said it would be fine in Colt and other SA guns like the Uberti.
Also Buffalo Bore has a similar load 255 gr. and 1000 FPS out of a 7.5 inch barrel. Listed as Heavy Colt 45 and 14,000 SAAMI specs and safe for all post war .45 Colts and small frame Ruger.
Won't be a constant diet of these but they do make for a great trail and self defense round.
Now I have some really hot ones for my Rossi Ranch Hand pistol/rifle....Underwoods 250 gr. @1450 FPS and they do get your attention!
