Winter fun...

We got a lot of snow last weekend. All of the trails needed to be pushed, and the drifting on the river made it even more challenging.
I went down on monday. It was still snowing a bit, and there was enough of a breeze to make visibility almost non existant.
I ran through some overflow under the snow, almost immediately. The depth of the snow made it impossible to spin the slush out as I drove and made my bravo much heavier than it normally is. I buried myself three times and dug myself out before decided it was a lost cause for the day.
Better to wait for better weather... before I tucked my tail between my legs and rode home I did get a few pics...
By thursday.. today.... all the needed trails had been pushed by the few intrepid mountain folk, and it seems we were back in business....
I'll be making more runs this week, and even be making a few dedicated runs just to get caught up online.
I actually shot some footage with my action cam on the way to town.. unfortunately I aimed it poorly, and all I got was footage of the sky... :roll: :lol:

20+ inches on my saguaros... It'll be gone in a few days in any case.

Man does that bring back memories. One good thing about living further north on the coast at OTZ was the snow was packed pretty hard by the wind. Lots of nasty drifts but at least as snogo could stay afloat. I did sink a dual track Ski Doo Alpine once over the hood but that was in a treed area a bit off the coast.

Looks like you have one of those modern snogos with shocks on the skis. I'll bet they ride a bit better than the old models. This is a good part of the year too what with the daylight lasting a reasonable while.

Going out on the river that day wasn't my idea, I should say.. I friend who has a weekend cabin needed to get out, to get back to work the next day.
That is the bad thing about the weekend cabin of the road system.. sometimes alaska just says... oh no you don't!!

I did get my machine turned around and I parked it across from the entrance to the river.
I then walked upriver to a slough that was frozen over, that was near a set of trails that would link them back to where they needed to go.
Walking, I was able to faintly see the trail amd followed it without issue. Although I was soaked through... yes it did freeze.... :wink:

And by the way... those old alpines are still being used ... you often see them being trailered north.... they are old technology.. but real work horses....

You ever have on of those '60s Evenrude machines that had a reverse that worked by restarting the engine backwards? Those things were sure beasts. I had to help a fellow get his out of the overflow on the sea ice in front of the OTZ FSS. I had to get the D4 cat and a long cable to budge that thing.

I haven't seen any old evinrudes, but there is no shortage of vintage machines still pluggin along!
