Who uses trigger shoes? Some of my "worked" Ruger

I just did this GP100 up, kind of a "spare parts" range toy I made...........it was a duty gun for a part-time auxiliary policeman in my area, he traded it in for a Glock or some such, I'm guessing he chose a 6" GP100 as a duty gun because either he has great taste in firearms, or his friend happened to be selling one, or he already had one laying around 8) Anyway, it seems like this one has had an action job, very smooth action so it responded well to an 8lb trigger latch spring from Wolff I had on my workbench.

I also installed an old Trapper Bullseye spring made for a Security Six........I bought about 5 of the Trapper spring sets and figured I would use the spring. VERY slick DA and tight, crisp SA break now. I had a Flaig-Ace #8 steel trigger shoe from the 60's-70's so I put that on the trigger, and also a Hogue Pau Ferro grip without a home that I decided to use. I had thought of drilling two "divots" in the trigger to help keep the trigger shoe in place......I do like the Ace shoes, because they are steel and you can really tighten them down. I have split my share of Tyler shoes trying to overtighten them.

Finished it off with a blaze orange Millett front sight. I sighted it in today for 130 gr. .38's, 158's hit a hair high but that's fine. This thing is a tackdriver with 130 gr. Rem UMC .38's. The real test will be if it can pop CCI primers and also various .357 primers. I don't use this gun for any kind of defense so it's purely a range toy. If it can't pop the hard primers, I'll stick with Federal stuff for range shooting. The action is so slick now I don't want to "undo" it by putting different springs in. I was shooting cloverleafs at 15 yards in DA today, I impressed myself because I'm usually not nearly that good.

A well worn Security Six I worked over, just added a set of Trapper Bullseye trigger return and hammer springs.......along with a spurless hammer. Found a NOS Herrett grip, and a Tyler trigger shoe. The DA pull rivals any S&W and it's dead accurate. I would love to use this for a PPC gun if I could ever find a match in my area. The gun was a beater when I got it, so I figured I'd have some fun with it. The "beaters" that I play around with often end up being some of my favorite guns.

I've used them before. I have one for my Redhawk. It was on there for a few years and I recently removed it. Didn't have any issues with it just wanted a different feel and look.

I wouldn't use them on a defensive gun, but I have several Ruger and S&W revolvers that have them and I have never had one come loose.

Too bad Tyler stopped making the Bronze ones, I would have liked to order a smooth one. My main complaint is that the Flaig Ace shoe has sharp serrations that dig into my finger a little bit, but I can live with it.

GUILTY BIG TIME on RSS's old models--I have about 7 that fit the RSS , they have little curve there was a trigger shoe on a RSS4 in Dougans 1980 book :arrow: first shoe I ever saw :)

I have a Tyler shoe that fits the new Blackhawk and Vaqueros, but I'm waiting to get a Vaquero to put it on.

Nice one Wayne!! I think I only have 1 with a trigger shoe... Came on it and I never bothered to remove it. Not that crazy about 'em myself, but probably 'cause I'm not used to shooting with 'em!

Pete I have used them for 20 + years --just on RSS's that gun was stored under tons of rugers :arrow: you know that RADICAL ONE :) :) had it--he has been nice to this wanta be ruger collector :D

For range shooting, I like the shoes just as more of a "vintage" thing. They also help make the SA break feel lighter and also, because I have longer fingers, I can put the middle joint of my trigger finger right across that shoe and pull straight back.

They are more of a novelty for me, but I feel they help me shoot better in some cases.

I wanted to try the Wolff 9lb. hammer spring, and probably just shoot Federal 158 gr. LRN through this gun. I have so many Ruger DA's that some, like this one, go in the "range only" category. :) Besides, I have gone pretty much all stainless for my "serious business" guns 8)
