I played guitar for over 50 years ...then I quit.

In high school, in the late 60's, I played lead comb in a three comb band in the hall. We should have gone pro .... we did reach the gone part ....

I will claim the recorder just to post- and I'm pretty good for learning by ear , but am actually (or was) a vocalist.

I imagine being on hot blacktop with your lack of footwear can make you do an interesting dance!
For want of a better name I would call it "The Ouchy Ooooohh"...

I don't play any instrument but last week I helped repair a 100 year old 7 rank pipe organ in a church that a friend of mine is the pastor of.
I will try to fix anything and am usually fairly successful...

Guitar: I am a 31 on a scale of 1-100. We have a couple acoustic guitars with internal pick ups and have my dad's bass and amp on loan. Looking for a MIM Strat or Tele for the family. My left handed wife started a couple years after me and is better because she practices every day. My left handed son that plays euphonium in marching/concert bands and trombone in jazz band picks up the guitar a few times a week and can play songs and stuff without practice or lessons ... but he can play the piano with no lessons and owns a trumpet and an alto sax (for those that don't know, that's kinda weird). My older son plays trombone in all bands and plays in his college marching band and orchestra. My youngest plays flute in marching and concert band and alto sax in jazz band. She qualified for State on flute in solo and with her flute ensemble as a freshman this year. Her brothers didn't earn their letterman jackets until their sophomore year.

EDIT to add: Both my wife and my younger son play guitar right handed even though they can do nothing else right handed.

we found it at an antique store. And since my daughter plays the violin, she wanted to give it a try. Much different than the violin.

That's pretty cool! I'm the same left handed, but have thought about learning right handed guitar.

I played trumpet in the school band. Sadly, I lost interest a long time before I was allowed to quit. In eighth grade I wanted to quit that & play football. My mom said no. I think she didn't want me playing football. The band & I would have both been better off if I had been allowed to quit.
I also had piano lessons when I was young. I actually liked it, but I did not like to practice. It didn't take too long for mom to let go of that one.

I payed piano a little as a kid. Then about 4 th grade started trombone. That was part of the doctor's treatment for asthma as playing an instrument for 30 minutes a day was good breathing treatment. In high school was on marching bad, stage band (played a lot of big band stuff from the 30's and 40's ) and put together a dixie land band for the school's annual talent show, played in orchestra in college one year then got really stupid and joined a frat and never picked it up seriously again. I could find the horn but never could find the lip. A number of years ago while in Micanopy I picked up a ukulele at Leonardos music and my wife went and bought it for me. Played for the last few years. It is nice to hear a song you like, look up the music on the internet and try to play it, even play it sometimes. I found ukes are really interesting instruments and can be used to produce some cool music.

Girl Drum Major in 63 that's really unusual from my experience. We sent ours to drum major camp and it was a lot of work. Congrats to her.

Her predecessor was a girl, so I guess it was nothing new at her central Texas small town high school back then.
Yes, she went to drum major camp and before that to twirling camp.

I didn't go to her school. Lived in Austin.

In college (Lyndon Johnson’s alma mater) she played the sax in the university's band.
She got this T-shirt for their highlight performance of the year…

Growing up in the blue ridge mountains I was raised on bluegrass and folk music but really love all genres of “music” (which obviously excluded Pop, Hip Hop, and Rap which are not music IMHO). That said,
I was somewhat of a child prodigy and began playing the radio at a very young age. In my teens I advanced to playing albums, 8 tracks and cassettes, eventually picking up CD’s and the iPod. I still LOVE music and attending live performances with my wife (she played flute and was drum major in HS) is our favorite date night outing. Current have tickets to Tab Benoit, Carolyn Wonderland and Devon Allman w/ Jimmy Hall in the next couple months. We’ve been on six of the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches Cruises… my happy place https://sandybeachescruises.com (mostly Americana and east Texas blues) It’s seven days of incredible music cruising the Caribbean in January, already signed up for SBC30 next year. If you can’t tell by now I absolutely LOVE music but can’t carry a tune in a bucket and my singing is even worse, my dancing is let’s just say entertaining. I believe my lack of musical ability is due to my hearing loss as I mostly hear the down beat so I’m always half a count behind.
Very thankful for all those that can and do play, you have my utmost appreciation, respect and support.
