I'm buying a Vaquero for my Father for his birthday and think it would be cool to give it to him in a nice wood display box.

Do any of you have such a thing and can you steer me in the right direction please?

Also, who makes some nice grips for a Birdshead?

I wish I could point you in a direction of a wooden presentation case,,, but I do not know of any specialty shops that do this. I'm sure any good wood workshops could build you what you desire.
Most of us don't use a wooden case due to the wear that is caused by such cases. The early SBH's in the mahogany cases have proven that over time,,, they can cause finish issues that greatly devalue a fine gun.

But,,, I do know that Smokey Mountain Knife Works does sell wooden presentation cases. They are nice enough & may fill your needs. I've got a few I use for other items,,, just not my guns.

As for grips,,, try our member here, lscg, (Zane) of Lone Star Custom Grips.

That's great advice actually, thank you. I hadn't considered the wear and tear of it, just thought it would be nice to give it to him in a nice package.

The gentleman with the grips, is his screen name LSCG? Does he have an ad in the classifieds or should I PM him?

Thank you for the reply by the way!

ian03 try Gerald Hampel out in Indiana. Here's a link to his stuff: http://hampelswoodlandproducts.com/
I own several of his products and the quality & prices are second to none. Let alone the fact that he's a genuinely nice guy.
Good luck,
Jay

I took a look at Hampel's. He's not charging enough, or he's using cheap hinges or something. I've made a few display cases, and I could not sell them so cheap and still cover my expenses, let alone make a profit.

The least expensive one I've sold was $90 and that was several years ago. Here's a pic of it.

This one had about $100 worth of hardware and wood in it. If I'd sold it, I'd have asked (and gotten) $250 for it. But it was a gift to a special man. Walnut, mesquite & ebony.

A pair of Brusso hinges and a lid support these days will run about $50 + shipping.

I'm not in the business anymore, so I'm not volunteering to make one for the OP. Just can't understand how Hampel can make any money.

Been into the wood working business my whole life.
I agree 100% this guy gotta be importing the stuff
from a third world hell hole. Cheap hardware labor and
finishes. He got some for 20 bucks I couldn't sand them for that. ps
