For me, it would depend on use. If it's for a collection, it would be the '65; if it's a shooter, the '60!

Well, I guess the best answer is I like cool stuff. I hope that didn’t come off sounding “wrong”. So … sentiment would be the most accurate. I guess I should really buy both…
I recently got my first 3 screw Single Six. It ignited a fire within me- it’s a good condition although modified 1955. So now I want more… that’s the impetus. I want the 1960 because that’s the year I was born- but the plum because it’s just so perfect, unusual, and beautiful.

Ok- so a picture is worth a thousand words. First, the 1960… EDIT- I decoded the serial wrong…it’s a 1959. As such, my interest is diminished some

Here’s why I really became enamored with this one…
It’s hard not to fall in love with that beautiful color.
As far as price goes, it seems mediocre examples have been selling for around $400 lately. I paid $390 for my 1955, and it’s nice but has some non-original parts installed. Both of these are listed for about $100 more.

I think you’re right, the 65 would be my choice all day long. If I could afford it, I’d just buy both.

The plum coloring is dang nice & my first choice. But for a shooter & holstering gun I bet the 1959 gun has a real smooth broke in trigger and shoots well, the Franzite grips was all the rage back in the 1950's my dad has some on his Flat Gate. IMHO!
It’s a toss up for me.
59 is MY birth year but the grips gotta GO so there’s another expense finding the right grips.
The 65 is super nice.
I’d shoot either one …. Can’t hurt them a bit. It’s what they were made for.

Well, I bought the 65. Might have it by the end of the week. Fingers crossed. The 59 is on a Buy-it-Now for another 70 days or so…and listed as a New Model. So I’m guessing if I want it down the road it might just still be there. I really would rather find a nice 1960 however. I’ve found a couple but the sellers want $800 plus for them and I feel that’s a bit too much. The right one will come along…

1965 hands down.
That purple color was the reason Ruger set probably 250 guns aside with the intention of chrome plating them. They never did chrome plate any of the fixed sight guns at that time, but there were probably 125 guns nickle plated in the adjustable sight Super Single-Six.... all made from the same chrome moly steel that made your gun purple.

I already have a '65 in the box so I'd pick the ugly messed up one. I would not pick my birth year myself as that would just barely be in the New Model era. I would not call that 1965 gun 99% though it is nice.

It is here! And believe it or not, even with Oregon’s messed up background check system, it went right through and I have it in my hands.
This is the cleanest little gun I’ve ever seen. It has a better finish than ones I’ve bought new. There is no holster wear- none of the screws look like they have ever seen a screwdriver- the cylinder looks new- and the only signs of usage are a faint drag line on the cylinder and a slight shiny spot on one side of the hammer from rubbing the frame. Other than that- perfect. I’m in love. I’ll take more and better pictures in the next few days.

Well, shucks. I was checking out my watch list on GB and saw that after an initial bidding flurry, no one had bid on a 1960 with box and paperwork. So just for fun I bid $5.00 above the current bid. And won. I’ll have pics of it up in a week or so. I’ve got to cool my jets now…too much $$ going out the door. But- this ensures my Grandson will be getting his first real gun- my like-new Wrangler!
