I'm thinking about a quick detatch single point sling for my AR556. Not looking for the best of the best as it isn't my "duty" weapon ..... just a plinker.

Anybody have something like this they're now using and where'd you get it?

What source would you look at for something like this?

Can an AR dummy like me put it on?

What do you want/need the sling for? Have you watched videos/done research/had experience with slings on AR-15's?

A two point sling is the most versatile sling for a rifle. A single point sling is mostly for carrying your AR around on your chest in front of you while you're walking around on deployment over in the Middle East. It can also be versatile.

There are oodles of good YouTube videos explaining and demonstrating how to use various slings.

Honestly, I don't need one at all. But, based on how our modest range is set up at my son's rural home, it'd be convenient.
I shoot with young men who are LEO's and it's convenient, again based on our set-up, to have that gun hanging around your neck as we all take turns shooting.

Maybe tomorrow I'll snap a pic of what's on their ARs and look locally for something similar.

Generally speaking, the two primary uses for a sling is to carry the gun, and the other is to serve as an aid during off hand shooting. The first is almost a no brainer and can be done ever how you want, and with what ever style of sling you want. The second however, requires training/understanding/mastering of the what's/why's/how's which are involved in order to obtain the desired results, which in turn is going to dictate "which style" of sling you'll need...which just in passing, probably ain't what you're seeing those "young LEO's" wearing around their neck.
On the other hand, if all you're wanting is some way to keep the gun on your person while awaiting your turn to disconnect it and commence shooting, and/or if all you are doing is shooting off of a bench, it don't much matter what sling you use in the mean time...

I mean really, as a practical matter...if it's not going to be used (or attached) while shooting, how much difference can one sling possibly make over another?...just go with whatever suits you.
