I really need to pass on the Red Cloud book I got a few years back in a karma here.... if some of those Sioux caught you and you were lucky they killed you quick.... if not so lucky and they had the time.... it would take days. Not just white folks but also members of other tribes.

As FM said,, "It's a joke!"

It's an oldie,, but still a goodie. I recall seeing a shorter version on a wooden plaque in one of the gift shops locally decades ago.

The "noble savage" image of Native Americans is as much a myth as the "virtuous cowboy". Native Americans were stone age primitives before European White men came to this continent. That is not to say that as individuals they were likely as decent or indecent as any other group of people. They pretty much were engaged in endless warfare among their tribes and had not advanced even to the point of developing written language or rudimentary technology that had developed a thousand years earlier in other parts of the world. On the other hand, Europeans brought more than horses, knowledge and firearms to the "New World", they also brought smallpox and their own form of religious bigotry and prejudice. The Native Americans have been romanticized by those on the Left who wish to denigrate American culture and values as well as our history, which while certainly not perfect from a moral perspective, did more to advance the quality of life than to damage it.

Louis L'Amour summed it up pretty good on the American Indian. He said "you were either his friend or his enemy." In other words if he didn't know you, he would kill you.

Is this the book you are referring to? I don't know when I bought it but just finished up book two of the Angery American series and was needing something to read until I get book three of the series. This is very interesting book about Red Cloud:

Yep, I made it half way through about a year and a half ago. Got kind of tired of all the stories of one side massacring the other... kind of sad what we humans tend to justify.. and it seems we don't have the capacity to change.
