I am getting a 480 ruger tonight it has the 7.5" bbl with the magnaport in the bbl it is a super redhawk with the grey finish. I have a 454 alaskan that I really like and was thinking about cutting this 480 down to the alaskan size. I have checked with my local gunsmith and he has a milling machine to do the sight work back. The super redhawk has the scope grooves on it but I think there is enough room to put a sight blade back in in front of the scope mount slot. I already have a 480/475 BFR with a 7.5" bbl and think a 480 alaskan would be nice to have also even with the grey finish it would be nice. I haven't committed to anything yet was just wondering what you all thought I should do with this gun.

Mine is getting bead blaster to remove the Ruger grey finish and will be a matte stainless similar to the Alaskan.

Well I picked it up and it's nice. It came with 2 sets of grips the original and a beautiful set of wood finger groove grips a couple of sets of springs from wolf and a set of rings. The wood grips are on it now and I will shoot it then switch out the grips and try the rubber grips with inserts that came with it and see which I like best. Then I will carry it and see what it will cost to cut it down. After looking at it and all I may just use it like it is I have a 480/475 linebaugh with 7.5" bbl in the Magnum research bfr also. I will decide after shooting it some.
