what is the going rate on a used blackhawk now a days?

ok maybe im showing my age here but I can remember a shop here in town in my younger days that always had a display case full of ruger black hawks/super black hawks the average price in the 200$ range if it was something out of the ordinary 250 maybe 300$ range . well unfortunately the owner passed away some time ago. well I sold off a few guns a couple weeks ago im trying to cut down on reloading for so many different calibers .and I would like to ad a 357 mag Blackhawk to my collection I already own 2 other 357s a s&w 686 and a rossi 92 I really enjoy the caliber and don't plan on dropping it from my collection anytime soon. anyhow ive been watching a local gun shop for a month of so now waiting for a used 357 Blackhawk to come in he got 1 last week he tells me the gun is roughly 30 yrs old and he sold it to original owner new and that its had less than 1 box of shells through it in those 30 yrs. well mechanicly the gun is nice the bore is nice so on so on the blueing is rough on grip frame on the cylinder, I can live with this it would make a nice project. then I flip the tag over and see 399$ im thinking wow is this what a used Blackhawk is going for now a days. is this on the steep side or am I just out of touch?

Around $350+ as a average price for a nice used Blackhawk in good shape is the going rate where I live, wouldn't pay that for a gun with bad blueing more like $250-$300 tops if it needs to be reblued.

I agree with 6gun. Pawn shops always want new price for used stuff so unless you are a wheeler dealer look elsewhere.

$400 is about what you'd pay for a nice used Blackhawk around here, $425-450 or so for a Super Blackhawk. Bisleys seem to run to the higher end.

If it's a New Model, (safety transfer bar,) and doesn't have the box etc,,, I'd say about $350 out the door would be fair for both parties. If it's an Old Model, then the $399 price tag isn't out of line at all.

A couple months ago, I sold a 99% 3-screw .357 with the original box (a little dog-eared) for $450. Both the buyer and seller were okay with the price.

You can buy a new one for about $450 so I'd say its a tad steep.

well I called every gun shop locally and even a few more than 50 miles from here theres not a single Blackhawk 357 new or used to be found . so I went back to same shop he had that used 1 for 400 with the rough blueing and had a new 357 Blackhawk convertible I ended up going with the new convertible the price was a bit salty on it too at 559$ but I got what I wanted . I really wish now I would have held onto the Blackhawk 357 convertible I owned 20 years ago if I remember right I only paid around 250 for it . all and all im happy with what I ended up with all but the factory grips . ive got a set of Hogue mono grips on the way I put them on every hand gun I own that I can get them for there the cats meow in my opinion .

$559 is not a bad price for a brand new convertable, brand new Blackhawks with regular single cylinder are just proud of $500 now days in my area.

I used to buy every really nice one I could get my hands on for $325-$350 (and $375-$400 for stainless ones). Anymore I can't even hold them for that. Rugers have became the gun of choice in my area.

Same here. A year or two ago, decent ones were very reasonable, but recently they have increased significantly, with only real rough-looking examples seen for under $400. Of course, most of them would still be good shooters, and decent fodder for someone wanting to do a custom.

Not checking many gunshops lately, I'm kinda out of touch with reasonable prices. However, Old Model Super Blackhawks have always been scarce around here so I jumped on one of 1970 vintage, looked almost new @ $500 from an individual. Decided to go looking around and found no other OM Supers at any price! Now, I just gotta find a rear sight blade for it. Seems the owner wanted to try CAS with it and removed the rear blade. He promptly died and it was purchased from his widow.

I have ample OM's for shooters, so no need to by New Models unless something is really special about them…….to me.

I don't doubt that's true in your area, but locally a new Blackhawk starts at about $550. I saw one a couple of weeks ago at one of my haunts -- $579. They have certainly gone up in the last 2-3 years. Still a great value for such quality, but not like earlier times. (Sigh!) I recall a really nice Super Blackhawk I bought about 5 years ago for $275. Made a killing, of course, by selling it for $300 a few months later. Dummy. :(
