What is a Blackhawk marked "Ruger 41 mag conversion" on box?

What is a 1980's Blackhawk in 41 mag with 6.5" barrel that has "Ruger 41 mag conversion" marked on outside box? Good or bad thing? Thanks.

Someone had a gunsmith convert something to .41 Mag.?

Not sure. Someone just said it's the older yellow box and that is what was marked on the box. He said:

"On the outter box (shipping box) it was mailed from Ruger 11/22/1983, on the box it reads "Ruger 41 mag conversion" (i think the word is "conversion")"

Not sure what that means, nor does guy who owns it. Anyone know?

My first impression is that the Old Model .41 magnum has been fitted with Ruger's Conversion kit. :roll:

Is the 3-screw Blackhawk harder to find? Is it desirable to own one over modern versions? Is quality equal to, or better, than modern versions and variations?

I'm pretty sure that conversion is the safety thing. Thanks.

Oooh, not reading good things about OM conversions with this transfer bar. Sounds like it's better to have an original OM or a NM. Something about the conversion irreversibly messing up a clean, smooth trigger operation?! Any first hand experiences?

You can put the OM parts back in a conversion to get a good trigger.

Would you guys prefer the NEW Blackhawks over the Old Model or is pretty much same? Or is the new frame SMALLER than the older 3-screw frame?

If it is a 1980's gun it is not an Old Model. I very much prefer the Old Models. When the conversion was done Ruger often returned the gun to the owner in a New Model box, which I think is one of the reasons the real Old Model boxes are so valuable now. Does the box also have a stamp saying "NOTICE PARTS LOCATED UNDER FLAP"?

A quick look at the gun will answer a lot of questions. A "New Model" will be marked New Model. An "Old Model"
will NOT be marked Old Model despite the fact it MAY have the "conversion kit" installed.

Well, gee flatgate, why do you reckon they didn't mark them "Old Model" to begin with?

Boy, I wish I was smart enough to answer that question! If it was my gun I'd certainly guess that reading the roll marks might just offer some useful information, and I'd certainly guess that performing some other pertinent measurements may offer some answers.

Shucks, what do I know about this stuff. I just got here........and hope to get me one of them there Cowboy Guns sometime!
