What handgun should I get next?

Sig P365 Legion was on my list along with another TNW rifle... but then I for some reason decided I wanted to shoot this first:

Bought Both the camera and lens used and they cost just about the same as the Sig P365 legion new.
and 3 times what the TNW rifle would have cost me.
and that does not include the accessory kit I ended up buying to be able to hold this critter up and steady.....

Wow! That is an open ended question for sure! There are volumes both written and in video on the subject. I currently own eight hand guns, technically nine but one is a useless but fun Drako pistol. I highly recommend going to a range that has a good selection of rental firearms and trying some. Your hand size will tell a lot of the story. Distance from palm to end of index finger, width of thumb to index finger, hand strength and dexterity are among the most significant. Purpose or purposes of handgun(s) is obviously another. I have a CPL and carry. I have two carry pistols, a Ruger LCP Max and a Sig 365 each has different carry capabilities. I love shooting at the range but hate wasting money so I have two 22LR pistols, a Browning Buckmark bull barrel and a Walther P22Q that I can have a blast with spending little money. I also have a few full size 9mm and a 1911 45 for home defense. I rotate all of my firearms in practice to maintain at least "dinner plate" accuracy (center mass) at 5 to 15 yards. Recoil sensitivity is another consideration. Handgun parameters such as grip construction, grip width, bore axis, and compensator can make a big difference. Firearm maintenance is another I think worth mentioning in this writing, how hard is it to field strip and clean the firearm. The list can go on ad-finem as you develop preferences.

I right with you as far as 22 goes why not I see a lot of people at the range don’t bring 22 I have a hoot shooting them and it’s cheap

I shoot three times a week. Not being wealthy it directs me to rimfire. I really like my Ruger SR-22 long barrel. Flawless operation on ANY kind of ammo.
Next is my recently purchased Ruger Single Ten. Very nice pistol.
And two weeks ago bought an FN502 .22LR. Fits me like a glove. Liked it so much bought the FN509 same gun but in 9mm. The FN502 is hammer fired and the trigger is phenomenal. The 509 is striker fired, not as nice of a trigger but good regardless.
In November 2024 I bought a Sig P322 and is also a really nice pistol. Has a nice 20rnd magazine.

I should have worded it differently.
Without using parameters I was wondering what the first thought would be to the members if they were in the market to buy.
Mostly wanted to see the variety of thoughts.

If I were in the market, I think one of these. Uberti Russian #3 in 45 colt.

Or the Uberti 1875 #3 in 45 colt with a 7 inch barrel.

I don't have a top break & all the other squares are pretty much filled. I do lean toward the Russian as it looks more unique.

Mine beats the tar out of my middle finger. Using my .41 I have to arrange my hand just so to avoid being whacked and any accuracy I hoped for goes way down unless I am shooting cream puff loads. Other 97/41 owners have the same observation while many have no issues.

In my opinion, this in one revolver / caliber that really should be shot before buying.

Your middle finger will do nothing but get you in trouble anyway. So get your priorities straight and have it cut off. Problem solved

Everyone needs:
1. A 22LR, SA or DA revolver or pistol. My picks: Single Six convertible, SP101 or MKIV. Start here.
2. Next, a 38/357 SA or DA revolver. My picks: NV Blackhawk Flattop convertible (357 Mag & 9mm), Service Six if you can find one, or a GP100.
3. A 9mm pistol. My pick: Beretta 92.
4. A big bore revolver (either 45ACP/45 Colt SA convertible or a 44 mag). My picks: NV Blackhawk Flattop convertible or NV Super Blackhawk.
After that, what ever you fancy and can afford. Maybe a light weight pocket revolver or small auto. Your choice.

I already have a Sig P365, but if I didnt that would be the gun I would get. One back ground check for the FCU and you have a gun that can be a micro-compact or a full size and everything in between. I picked up a SIG XL grip module for $25. Some accessories are expensive (ie legion barrel and slide or legion grip module) and some are not. I picked up a 380 barrel and slide and some 380 mags for about $300. The slides swap out fast making it easy to shoot both 380 and 9 back to back at the range. The modularity and abundant factory and aftermarket parts support make it possible to dial the gun to your exact liking and for it to serve multiple roles. It's also easy to work on. Removing or adding a thumb safety is novice smith work and swapping the fcu to another grip module is even easier with the removal of just one pin.

At the top of my list right now is a BUL Armory SAS II EDC Pro. Thats an aluminum framed double stack commander sized 9mm 1911 with rail, optic mount and ports. It costs 3 to 4 times as much as a standard P365, but has a reputation for performing as well as 2011s costing twice as much. It is concealable (not as much so as a P365, though), large enough for the nightstand and probably more fun at the range than anything in my current arsenal.

About 30 years ago I got a deal on a Desert Eagle in .44 Mag. I thought that it would be cool for pin matches. Sadly, the thing is just too big for my hands and I don't shoot pins anymore.

I should sell it but I like being able to say, "I have a Desert Eagle."

After several months of weekly OT, a couple weeks ago I went to the largest toy store near here with OP's intention and a nice wad of cash. Was leaning towards a 9mm 1911 because I had neither 9mm nor 1911 . Alas, they had no 9mm 1911 or any other 5 - 6" 9mm! So I saved some dough, scratched the 9mm itch with an RXM, and am "patiently" awaiting Rugers introduction of a longslide upper to install.

The right .38/.357 small frame DA for the right $$$ may have swayed my purchase, as would a .38/.357/9mm convertible Blackhawk or a 5 1/2" .44 Mag Redhawk. A guy's gotta keep an open mind!

Kel-Tec P-17 .22 LR 16 plus one rounds, 3 pound trigger, super lightweight, reasonably accurate and reliable with 3 mags for under $200.
I'm not a plastic gun guy, but these impressed me so much I bought 3 of them. If it fits your hand you'll like it.

If it were me, and if I didn't already have them it would be a 357 revolver with 4" barrel or a basic 1911.

I'm pretty well covered with most everything in my collection so now I search for guns that mean something to me.

This Sunday I'm attending an auction where the place buys estates. There are hundreds of guns on the list.......many I would love to have ...out of 38 pages of listings "one" for me was a no brainer. A Smith & Wesson MOD 39 in pretty decent shape.....why? sentimental. First 9MM I ever qualed on in the military, and trained hundreds of Naval Aircrew on them. It was a fun little gun. Hopefully it comes home with me.

I had a Model 39 years ago. Traded it (stupidly) for a model 59. Felt like I was holding a brick.

I had a 59 briefly. It was finicky and needed a lot of slicking up to run consistently w/out a FTF. Traded it for a nice SHOEI motorcycle helmet and a case of beer back in 1986.
