That is about as practical a hunting revolver as has ever been made (at least for a single action).
Many, many years ago (late sixties or early seventies) I got my first Model 29 and did all of my deer hunting with the .44 Magnum (that was the best option at the time). I later added a Ruger Red Hawk (with the built in scope mounts). Those two handguns have done my hunting chores and did them well.
Your .45 Colt Ruger Hunter will certainly do everything my .44 Magnums will.
