What browser do you use?

I've used Internet Explorer most of the years that I have been on the Internet, but have Chrome on my PC as well. With Internet Explorer going away (or will it just not be supported anymore by Microsoft?) I guess I will use Chrome. But not being in any way expert on computer or internet matters, I wonder what some of you use, and what difference does it make? I don't find Chrome any better or worse than Internet Explorer, and wonder what if any advantages other browsers offer? Looking for advice from those in the know.

I found Chrome too intrusive, remembering everything and selling it I suspect. I use Firefox and I have trained it to provide entertaining adverts.

Oh, yeah.... run Firefox on a Linux platform and it's even better.

I still use IE, for now. I got a new computer in Dec. with, I think is called, Windows 7 Professional. I went overboard with the speed I wanted so it's considered a gaming computer. 2 weeks ago my boy came for a visit from Memphis and said my computer was amazing being he's a gamer.

I told him I wasn't too happy with how it played some videos, like on YouTube. He told me it was IE. He took the video that wasn't playing right using IE and played it on Chrome. What a difference! I'll be switching to something other than IE. Maybe I'll find the answer in this thread.

As I posted in another thread, IE is supposed to be coming to an end. But since it's a Microsoft product, I suspect its "replacement" will be little more than the same old bones that were supposedly buried, dug up and dusted off yet again.

Firefox is my browser of choice. IE lives on the machine because there are a very few websites out there which don't play well with other browsers. If you don't think Google knows enough about your life already, go with Chrome! I understand it works fairly well, but I prefer to minimize my interaction with Google when possible. When even the IRS has sold my contact info, it tells me a little bit about how bad the snooping's gotten.

Chrome is TOPS and also the default browser for many systems other than Windows. New browser in developement called Titan. New info to follow. Been using chrome for years and love it. Much better performance! Loads all the pics and videos that IE refuses to.

Hi,

Only two things come to mind in my experience. Perception's an important thing to remember in determining if they're a "downside":

--When one clears the browsing history, which I think is a good maintenance practice to do a clean sweep of cookies and the cache, it will wipe out "remember me" types of passwords, even if you tell it not to.

--When one uses the cache a lot, as I do watching TV programs online, and it gets full, it doesn't "self-clean" when it reaches the limit one's set. Then things slow way down.

Neither of these is a deal breaker for me, and take less time than refilling my coffee cup. I've got a file to copy and paste passwords rather quickly, and just go to the cache and clean it before watching a program. I've got it set high enough to get thru most everything ok.

OTOH, both of them drive a buddy absolutely up the wall. He's retired, yet has become more "possessive" of his time since retirement than he was before! Since he uses Duck Duck Go for a search engine, to avoid some of the Google exposure, yet gets there thru Chrome, I take his complaints with the proverbial grain of salt...

I use all the common browsers. One browser for general surfing. One for internet email. A different one for banking. Yet a different browser for gaming.

The browsers are FREE, so why not spread it around. Some sites do better with one browser than another.

I usually use Chrome, primarily because AdBlock doesn't work with IE. I also use Firefox. I infest a couple of sites under different identities, and it works well to have Chrome remember my passwords under one identity and Firefox under the other. I guess that is pretty much the same reason people have more than one email address.

Much better IMNSHO is SeaMonkey...

For faster and lighter I use K-Meleon...

Used to love Opera, but as of now it is simply a rebranded version of Chrome...

Have not even looked at IE since version 6...

Linux/BSD I use everything from SeaMonkey to Dillo...

I use IE, google Chrome and Firefox.

Chrome runs faster than the other two, but if I want to access SAAMI's chamber specifications, I need to use IE. Chrome will not interact with SAAMI's format for some reason. If i need to check someone out with the FBI, I need to use IE now.....it used to be Firefox, but something happened to that. I still have Firefox on the computer, but don't use it for much anymore.8)

Several websites told me I needed to upgrade Safari on my Mac, but I could not do so without first upgrading the operating system. I did not want to do that at this point, so I tried Firefox, and for the most part really like it. Also, I could get the very latest version without a new operating system, or messing with an Apple Password. Still have Safari, which still works better on some websites. I am having problems with Google right now over my Adsense account on my website, and would not do anymore business with them that I had to.

Left all things Microsoft years ago, will never go back.

Firefox started life as Netscape and has evolved, and become even better.
I've been running Linux since '08, should have started sooner. :roll:
Only problem with Linux is that Adobe is arguing with Linux, so any videos
that . . must . . have adobe, have become problematical. I still get YouTube
videos to work properly, but a few others, not so much so; and this is just
in the last few months.

Years ago I used Netscape Navigator over IE. Even then it was much better than IE. I didn't realize it morphed into Firefox.

Mozilla Firefox ESR. Works much better than IE for me and has many more features than Chrome which is a bare-bones browser.
