I haven't bought .22LR ammo in a LONG time. Yesterday I decided to see if Walmart had any.

They had two kinds. CCI MiniMags were priced at $11.00 per hundred. Last time I bought these, the price had just gone up from $5 to $6 a box (100).

Federal Auto-Match, $21-something for 325 rounds, or @ 7c a shot. Last time I bought Federal Bulks at Walmart, they'd just gone up to $11/500, and I'd been buying them for $9.97/500 for years, or about 2c a shot. (Fortunately, I still have quite a few of these on hand.)

What are .22LRs going for in your area?

In my area they're running 7 to 8 cents a shot. My local atwoods has federal 325 for 25.00 and Aguila 500 for 34.99. Sometimes they will have a sale and can get them a couple bucks cheaper.

DON'T BUY..... force the prices down..... it works, takes time, but it works... it's called "what the market will bear".

IIRC I've seen Fed. Auto Match down around $19 per 325 rounds..... but don't quote me...I'm old and forgetful.

IMHO,
J.

I am like the OP and haven't has to buy any ammo (or components) in years. My Walmart has AutoMatch for $21 for 325 and CCI MiniMags for about $9 per 100. I think I still have a dozen boxes of AutoMatch alone from when they were about $14 per box. Don't ask how many MiniMags I bought at $6 per 100.

Best i have found is the Norma Tac, at 3.99$ a box(50) I do not think we will see prices under .08 cents a round for a long time if ever. It is the new normal, and people are used to it, so, why would they lower it?

Wal-Mart yesterday had 500 Remington Golden 22LR, $43.

A quick search online shows ample 22LR under .08 and many under .07

I live in upstate NY, am in my 70's, and a few months ago I purchased my first ever rifle - a Ruger Takedown 10/22.
I applied for my pistol permit in March of 2022, and they said it could take up to 16 months in my county in New York State before I get it. I received a letter from the city telling me I was approved for the conceal carry permit and I should receive it any day now in the mail - so the whole process took me less than less 6 months which I thought was surprising based on living in NY State.
I was going to buy an AR, but long story short, I decided on the 10/22 to get started due to the cost of the AR and ammo, and where I could shoot the rifle.
I joined an indoor rifle club that is 5 minutes from my house and only allows rifles that shoot .22lr, and as for pistols, they allow other calibers but no Magnum bullets.
If I bought the AR, I would have no where to shoot it unless I did some travelling out of my county.
As soon as I get my pistol permit my choice of pistol will be a Ruger that shoots .22lr – same caliber as my rifle.
As for ammo, every time I go to Walmart I check and see what they have. Sometimes the locked shelves are empty, and when they do have stock by far the most ammo available is .22lr.
I'm limited (I think by Walmart, but it also might be a NY State limitation) to buy no more than 3 boxes of ammo at a time.
When I buy, I purchase 3 boxes (.22 LR : Federal AutoMatch :40grain : LRN) that sell for $21.16 per box with a 325 count per box. The total price with tax for the 3 boxes is $68.56 which comes out to $0.07 a round. So far the price has not changed since I bought my first 3 boxes back in March of this year.

Got 500 Stingers for $80.00, probably to much but my Stoeger Lugers like the hot stuff. $16 a box of 100
Last Winchester M22 at Walmart were $47 per 1K!

I have been buying Norma direct for $40 a brick with free shipping on three bricks or more. That said, I had a pretty good inventory before this mess.

8-14 cents depending on the type/brand and some places ship free if you buy $200 worth.
Talking to a gun shop manager a couple weeks back, I mentioned I quit buying 22lr when a case of 5250 reached $185. He laughed and said "now you feel like a dumb _ _ _ don't you?". The last 22 ammo I bought was a mixed lot of approximately 22K(mostly Blazer and Federal Auto-match) on a Gunbroker auction several years back @ 2.5 cents per round.
