After acquiring a .357 Security-Six, I decided I needed a carbine to go with it. At the time, Marlin was having QC problems, so I went with the much less expensive Rossi 92. No regrets. The action is decent, loading and ejection is 100%, and accuracy is good, as long as I use heavier bullets. I did replace the rear sight with a Marble's Bullseye sight, which my old eyes can use. I have read much criticism of the safety, but I like it. The only time I use it is when emptying the magazine, when I have to work live rounds through the action. I settled on Alliant 2400 for reloading heavy bullet loads, but it took 2 years to find it locally.

Most people don't realize that Rossi has produced and sold far more '92 rifles and carbines than Winchester ever did...or that through the years, the Rossi versions have remained truer to the original design than has the much more expensive Jap-made Winchester and Browning copies.

Dern good guns, that's what they are.

I need to brag a little, not really me just the gun. I found a Navy arms rossi made 1892 that was made from 1978 through 1982 I believe. 3 years ago and it was still unfired, NIB. I would like a real 1892 but, I want to shoot it so, this works. I also installed a Skinner rear sight on the barrel and that met a taller front sight also. I shoot handloads with 158 gr. bullets. I will not call it a tackdriver, I have not spend much bench time with the new sights. But, 50 yards standing the clay targets normally get taken out 1st shot.
If anyone is interested I purchased a DVD that I will sell for 10 bucks, shipping included.
Steve' Gunz Rossi 92, how to clean, disassemble, modify. He also sells parts for the gun. I replaced the plastic mag. follower with his metal 1. I did the mods he listed and the gun runs smoother. Not sure of the retail of it, I thought I was in the 35 bucks with shipping. PM me.

My 92 is stainless with a 16" barrel. Out of the box these are a little rough around the edges. So far I have only addressed the sight issue by installing the Skinner rear sight. I intend to do a few other minor bolt on upgrades. Maybe smooth up the action some. Otherwise I am pleased.

Years ago, I had a blue 44 Mag version with 20" barrel. I sold it and picked up a Browning B92 which was a big step up. In my downsizing efforts the Browning went bye-bye too. I won't sell the 357......

Steve mine is also case harden, oct 20" barrel, walnut stock. Sounds like I need to try longer range shooting. Even the blued or SS and round barrel models are all great looking guns.

How about a TC Contender with a MGM .357 mag/max barrel? Nice light package and extremely accurate. I have the mag version and it (not me) can put 5 into 1.4" at 100yds with the best hand loads to date using good old 2400.

I settled on the Rossi, Ruger, Marlin, T/C Contender also.

I bought a Winchester Legacy 357 with 24" barrel and pistol grip when they were still made in this country. Has been a good gun but nothing to brag about except that it has a long free bore or lead which allows me to load extra long bullets like the Hornady 180gr XTP at the second crimp groove.

I hear ya.
If for some reason, I couldn't keep but one of my guns...it would surely be my old pre-safety 45LC Rossi-'92 Carbine.

I’ve been lusting after the exact same rifle for a while to go with my stainless BH. Sticker shock has kept me check so far and they’re a little hard to find. Sooner or later I’ll have to give in to my “needs”. Good to hear encouraging words from owners since I’ve had some concerns about their quality.

I love my 1982 Marlin 1894 carbine. Bought it like new for the princely sum of $250.00 in 1998 when I was 19, it was the first gun I ever filled out the yellow form on. It feeds and shoots everything I have ever tried in it, and yes, the Micro Groove barrel gets along with lead slugs just fine as long as they are properly sized and use good lubricant. I could easily sell it for 3-4x what I paid for it but that ain't gonna happen, my daughter is going to inherit it!

I love my Rossi 92s in 357 and 45 Colt. Both have 16.5" barrels and are handy little packages. I also have a Ranch Hand in 357.

I prefer the Rossis over the Marlins.
