Yep. I had a buddy ask to borrow my saw the other day. I said, "Tell me when you want to take out that tree and I'll come over with my saw."

Don't lend chainsaws. But I will help out.

This is also why I don't own a pickup truck in the city: everyone will ask to borrow it!

I learned a very bitter lesson about loaning chain saws many years ago. An acquaintance borrowed a brand new unused saw from me and when it came back, the bar and chain were totally fubarred. Come to find out he had cut some bushes down by sawing the roots off in the ground !!!!

The ONLY person I'd loan a chainsaw to is my older Son. Even then I cringe since I've seen some of his antics. Right now, he has one of my vintage arborist saws "on permanent loan" until we figure out what it's replacement will be. I had to terminate the loan on the previous saw when it got hard to start and he kept yanking the rope interminably. At least I can depend on him to use properly mixed gas.

Me: As soon as I receive the invoiced amount. Being such a good friend, I wouldn't expect you to work free either now. That's not fair to everyone else who pays "the going rates".

If it's decent firewood assuming he wants any of it the going rate is about half. At $300 a chord around here there's money in those logs. Other than that there should be plenty of after cutting beverages.

I went and looked at the tree he wanted to get rid of, then loaned him my old bow saw. He didn't need a chain saw.
