I currently have a Want To Buy Ad posted. I was contacted in a PM several days ago by a new user that offered me an "early M77" ridiculous low price. Looked like a very legit offer, with a retirement story and hidden in the back of his safe for years.
It wasn't that early after seeing a couple of really bad pictures. I told him I was looking for flat bolt M77's. He assured me it had "flat bolts" lol I asked for better pictures of the bolt, so he sent a rough picture of bolt heads lol. I politely told him I was looking for earlier M77's and thank you.
This morning I get a new offer to sell the same gun, a little higher price (+50) better pictures and description from a different new user.

Send a message to an admin with the usernames. I've gotten a few of those and they always take care of it.

The first red flag is always the new user. We all start somewhere but then when vague answers and mis information happens then 2nd red flag

Yes, if your eyes are open you can tell when something isn’t just right. He never would share a serial number either. I’m guessing he doesn’t have the rifle, just pictures and pictures never showed a serial number

Thats why I hate using the WTB prefix. The scammers look for those.

Whether WTB is used in the "prefix" or in the title or even in the text of your ad, the Search feature recognizes it.

Ovram offered to sell me a SBH grip frame. Even sent a picture with my user name and date. I told him to respond to my WTB add and send me a text with payment options. He would not do either and I offered him to ship to me, then I’d pay through Zelle. I eventually told him to get lost. Didn’t feel right.

I had a similar experience a couple months ago, Another way to tell a scammer is they always want you to pay by PP FF, or Vetmo, not sure that's correct spelling. Neither option will pursue a scammer, "tough luck, it's like giving them cash" is their response. A friend just got hit for $800.00 using these, so everyone beware. They are both a scammers paradise.

Sad thing. Ran across an obvious fake ad for ammo using a valid company's logo making it look valid. Knew it was fake and Reported it to Facebook. They claimed they were not going to force it down. The fake ads were from a "sponsored" site.

I recently got an ad from Harbor Freight and one from Home Depot that sure looked legit. I had won a tool and they needed me to pay the handling costs. Not good. That reminds us of the old saying "Buyer Beware".

Even legitimate companies who charge you a "shipping and handling fee" for a "free" item are scamming you. That fee will cover their cost of the item, plus shipping, plus at least a small profit. There really is no such thing as a free lunch.

I got a response awhile ago where the scammer picked a small town in Montana when I asked where he was located. Just so happens a friend lives in that same town. Had some fun with that one watching him squirm, just wish I could have “laid hands on”

Don't look at the 'presentation' but rather the actual sender's address. If it is from Home Depot or any know company simply go to their site and see what the address looks like. Scammers will be close but 'no cigar'.
