have not had to deal with help with #2 yet in this life...
I'll go ahead and tell y'all I've been peeing in a jar at night for years... hate getting up out of bed to go.
Then back in 2019 in cardiac ICU the male nurse showed me how to use a urinal correctly.... between the legs... this was because I had to lay flat on my back for two days... due to the temporary pump they had put inside me.

It is a pain to go inside right now sine I'm spending most of the day on the porch and so I have my jar with me out here.

current update... I'm cutting the oxy back to 8 hours and possibly doing some Tylenol in between we'll see.. practically no pain....
My wife wants me to keep icing behind my knee but a neighbor says that is only for the first 24 hours.... ?
Spent most of yesterday... sleeping & reading... inside ... too hot during the day..to be on the porch..... probably do the same today...

I would think that the ice is also 'as-required.' They told me to ice my (recently repaired) shoulder for the first 3 days. You might want to try some Ibuprofen for pain, too. It works better than Acetaminophen does, for me, anyway.
 
I think the ice was to keep the swelling down and I used it for a couple of days.. my wife wants me to keep doing it but she is much more proactive than me. I actually have stopped the Oxy stuff, but I think I should have taken one before going to bed last night... does not take much to keep me awake and finally took some Tylenol at around 2:00 and it took effect 1/2 later...
Now I'm just bored... have been reading the WWII letters between John D. McDonald and his wife Dorathy and it is pretty interesting.. her trials and tribulations at home with their very young son and his and her family and his descriptions of India .... which is pretty nasty. In one letter he describes and explains what they do with a child that has died that is less than 12 years old... wash them good and then throw them in the muddy river and then these big turtles eat them. Not making this up .... I guess the good news is since they are Hindu no one eats the turtles...
 
Percocet makes me drowsy and puts me to sleep...1/2 hour or so...then I'm awake.. That oxycodone leaves me awake but with what I call eye movement is slow...not too much pain though. I am awake. It also stops me up terrible...Senocot....There were 3 of us that did gun shows together. one fellow had had a kinda minor surgery with oxycodone....2 days he drank prune juice...a gallon or two.. In the midst of the show...he kinda stopped...looked at me...said watch my table...OK said I...the 3rd fellow was dealing with a customer...turned around and said...seeing the prune drinker stiffly walking towards the the rest room. Said Where's Marty going? an Uncle Remus story sprang into my head....and I said...he's going over to the men's room. I Hope It's not crowded ...he's gonna birth himself a Tar Baby... ....he went huh??/ I said ....remember Br'er Rabbit and the tar baby story from Uncle Remus??He's gonna birth himself a Tar baby.......His reaction was more than priceless..... Anyway...Ol Marty made it over there...Cleaned that men's room out...Never took oxycodone again...The other fellow was warped...called him ol Tar Baby till the day he died...Oh heck...I still miss 'em both...we had fun! I take nothing for pain...cept Tylenol. The cure is worse than the pain usually
 
Only doing Tylenol at night just before I go to bed... no pain and there lies a problem... Doc's instructions after the operation was to put no weight on the foot until he says so and this was pretty easy when it hurt to one degree another... now this is no pain inside this giant bandage and when I get up unless I really pay attention I not only want to stand on both feet but walk.. I actually have to engage my brain to tell my foot to lift up and get off the floor.

Now here is the second problem with all this... I'm looking at the post op x-ray and the screws and bolt and re-enforcing rod they put in and I start thinking about... Now lets say I had a rocking chair that part of it broke and I took some screws and a bolt and a rod or such and fixed it... I could then go ahead and use and rock in the chair... since this is what they did to my foot why can't it be the same and not this 'it'll be 2 months before you can use it" or such?
 
I know but it just seems like if they bolted everything really good it would grow back fine while moving around.
the other problem is this is my left foot and it has this big splint on it... pretty much a cast but just real think bandage with some kind of plastic or fiberglass rods in it so I can't move my foot around... I can't drive any where because all our damn cars the dern center console goes down to the firewall. If this was not there, like in the cars I grew up with that has a bench seat in the front... I could just swing my right leg over and drive with my left foot... all our cars are automatic... I may see if I can just fold this splinted foot under my left leg in front of the seat and do it that way.
 
My wife snapped her ankle n dislocated it 13 years ago. A bunch of screws and some metal are still noticeable on that ankle and limit her foot wear.
Most of her cowboy boots cause discomfort or pain because of the repair hardware. So 5 or 6 pair of Lucchese sit in the closet unworn.
Hiking boots also cause issues.
 
Pretty sure I’m local to you (Simpsonville). Happy to drop by and mow the lawn. If it’s 1/4 acre, I’ll bring my electric mower. If not, I’d need yours.

Had to correct my last post.. is my right / driving foot/ankle I broke.
thanks for the offer Badger Matt... but the 'yard' that needs cutting is about 30 by 20 feet and we just use a weed wacker..
(front yard upper right in the pictures below).
Now if you really wanted to tackle something (I'm joking here) it is our lower lot... contractor is going to have to cut back and down some of the polk (trees) to get a place to leave the last (we hope) delivery of supplies in finishing the back corner of our house.
Speaking of broke, I'll post a picture below of our house right after all the trees were removed 2 weeks after Helene came though. Lock at the back left corner of the house... this is the part we still have to finish... were hoping by the end of this month.

Here is where we are... just waiting on the final siding to be put on... I was supposed to replace that one small overhang of rusting metal roofing but I think I'm going to ask the siding folks to do it.. depending on the doc's prognosis next Tuesday...
(note that my wife decided the back corner needed to be stretched out... also the same for the front porch upper right.)

Went to my post op visit this morning.. Good news... On the way to recovery

They took that big thick bandage splint off and I got a look at my foot for the first time in a couple weeks... stitches on both sides but kind of interesting; looks like they made two holes about the size of a quarter to work in... And yes that is a metal rod running up in my smaller leg bone that broke and they screwed and bolted the stuff together.. I'll post a better picture later...

But here's the real news... they took the stitches out put one of those big plastic boots on... actually gave me this one because we already had one from the original x-rays and told me I could walk now...with a crutch or cane.. take it easy and sign up for rehab a couple times a week and come back in 3 weeks.... then they are going to put a brace on, don't know how long I will have that.. Bad news is according to them I still can't drive until the boot is off and brace is on.

that dern rod is just creepy... wonder what the folks at TSA will say...

I have something similar. That smaller leg bone is your fibula. Mine was crushed in an auto accident so all the pieces were removed and I have a flat piece of steel strapping in its place. My ankle was also crushed so they fused what they could and pinned my ankle. Near zero movement there which is a bit**, but they did save my lower leg.

Dang Blume...what dose did they give you? I usually get 5/325 but my neck surgery they gave me 10/325 every 4 hours and with 10mg Vicodin in between...it was winter and I found myself counting snowflakes when I was awake.....only it wasn't snowing.

Hope you recover quick. DON'T stop the meds cold turkey even if you think you don't need them...trust me your body will revolt in a bad way.....drink lots of water, eat lots of bran....and like others said keep up with the stool softeners and laxatives unless you enjoy large pineapples stuck in your six!

5 major surgeries in the last few years I feel like it's a hobby:confused:

5/325, 10/325, 10/500, etc, (hydrocodone / acetaminophen) was originally marketed as Vicodin. Vicodin as a brand name was discontinued in 2012 by Abbott laboratories. Generics are in common use today.

I have been taking 10/325 generics daily for about 15 years.

Drink lots of water and high fiber to keep things moving. It is best to get those "things" moved before the first dose in the morning.

Been there, done that.

Yep. It was a very high theft drug always being chased on PDMR's. I busted several Pharmacy Techs and Pharmacists for either consumption/embezzlement of a Narcotic or theft with intent to sell among many other charges. Vicodin and ED drugs, even Plan B were always on the radar. Oxycontin was a high theft product because of the name. It was just more popular than Oxycodone. Brand name vs generic any C2/opiate was high theft. Once busted a ring that was "floating" the inventory, that they ordered. They were selling it in school for "Bucket Parties". If invited you needed to drop pills in a bucket....then it got passed around. Every time I resolved a case by admission I always asked "what happened to keg parties?". One thing I miss from those days was working with DEA and the interesting interview/interrogations with addicts....my own Pharmacist was actually patterned on a PDMR. I was not allowed to conduct the investigation. My covert kit was used though....but I would have really liked to have been the one to do the interview...that scum filled my kids prescriptions...and knew he knew damn well what I did for a living.

Had a case on a Pharmacist that was very difficult to nab who was drinking liquid codeine....he was slippery. Took 3 coverts to actually see what he was doing to consume it. Pattern was easy to figure out. Just needed actual consumption for prosecution. Can be frustrating.....fun fact.....Pharmacists can be protected by a Union which makes the crime difficult to prosecute in the first place.....and they have a "Impaired Pharmacist" program which gets them off with minimal harm. Wonderful justice......
 
I over did it walking with this boot yesterday and going out with friends and over eating... ended up taking an oxycodone last night when I went to bed at 10:00 and it lasted till about 2:00. but I did sleep pretty well after that. Then got up and put the boot on so I could go downstairs and get some stuff I need for later this morning... house was kind of stuffy and I was aggravated and went to move my scooter and fell over and slightly twisted my new ankle... hope it is okay. Icing if right now, which is one of the things the hot physicians assistant told me to do yesterday anyway... wife has me scheduled to start physical therapy next week and she's also started making a list of things for me to do once I get this boot off.

Yikes! You have to be careful, or you'll be like me - having a 'revision' (redo) performed. Although mine was not my fault. I'm going to the Orthopod in about 30 minutes, and will hopefully leave without the sling that I've been in for the past six weeks! And then, I get to resume physical therapy. Also, hopefully I'll be able to resume driving.
 
Before and after the surgery I was fantasizing that with the total nerve block that completely paralyzed my leg, it would have been cool to actually watch the operation... now that I look at the x-ray of what they did I think I can see why they totally knock a person out to do this. There had to be some serious drilling and hammering to get this all installed.

Kind of like my thoughts about LEOs and other first responders ... I am really glad there are people willing to do this kind of work, no way I could.
 
Hot tubs and metal in your bone can be a problem if they placed the screws, I call them screws because one in my wife's ankle looks like a flat headed screw, just under the skin.
Those screws hold a chunk of metal and they heat up in a hot tub.
 
That made laugh! The body regulates internal body temp....a hot tub isn't going to heat up metal implants. I have lots of plates and screws in me. Never had a issue in a hot tub.

Her repaired hip ( rod thru the femur / metal cap on the head of the femur ) doesn't heat up, her ankle sure does. Ankle looks like pieces from an erector set were used. Screws just below the skin heat up, metal transfer the heat...but hey go ahead and laugh .
 
I can vouch for the cold penetrating into all my hardware. My lower leg is the worst but the titanium plate in my face also absorbs the cold. Once it gets below freezing one side of my face is much colder to the touch.
 
Along with that I have a friend who has a good bit of metal in him and he says he now has to take antibiotic when he goes to the dentist because if there is any infection in his body it will go and grow where the stainless steel is... sounds kind of screwy but the guy is pretty straight and narrow....

The odd thing about my foot now... it feels like I have an ace bandage wrapped around the ankle all the time.

With all the metal crap in me I've never felt any difference in summer or winter. I had all the questions about cold, heat, metal detectors, MRIs, etc....the only thing that I've noticed is severe cold will make my knee stiff if I'm outside for a long time, and some metal detectors activate. For a while the only metal I had was in my neck. My job had me in court often and there was considerable air travel. The courthouse detectors were intermittent, while airport detectors activated consistently. Over time, as the tissue grew around the plate/screws the activations were less. My neck rarely activates anymore. My knee consistently activates both. My left sacrum/SI joint is still pretty fresh (last SEP) and still activates systems. Step aside, get wand scan, show scars.

I've never been told to take antibiotics due to the implants I have.

The feeling in your foot is from the damaged nerves from surgery. My right knee and left foot always have that feeling.
 
I don't have a lot of experience with the hand held metal 'wand' detectors... but I did see a real mistake a few years back while entering an Eagles concert... the security guard was doing a guy and it went off on the guys right side pocket and the guy just pulled a bunch of keys and a pack of marlboros out of the pocket and showed them to the guard.. guard said okay go on in.. did not check the guy any further. ....

I was in a hurry two years ago to get into our fancy center for the pre-formed arts to pick up some tickets for a show we and friends were going to later that day and did not even see the two guards at the front door scanning people until it was too late... one of them ran the hand scanner all around me and waved me in... I was carrying..... don't know what the deal was or what was going on; two security guards at the door and then about 5 cops inside watching who came in... that night when we went to the show... no security in sight....
