Went into Walmart today to buy a new Norelco razor. They are all locked up in glass cases. I finally found a guy to open up the case for me. He took out the razor and said "I'll have to walk this over to the cashier with you".

I'm wondering if I looked like an extra shady character or has this happened to any of you guys?
 
So many folks stealing from WalMart that they have to have some sort of control.
Got a pal that works in automotive, replacement head light bulbs are #1 things swiped.
Despite the many negative comments about WallyWorld I like it. Basically it's bout all we have round here.
 
A three day beard might make you look like a shady character, but if you were clean shaven you wouldn't need the razor.
 
Walmart does have a major problem with theft. Right now dealing with law suits from black people that claim it's racist to lock things of value up. What else are they going to say???
Cary, they now may want to call you to testify that it's not just blacks they are doing this for.
 
I work in a pet store, anything small and of high value is locked up and only the managers have keys and they bring it to the register for you. We have electric dog clippers that range in price from$50 to $200 for professional models. If someone steals a fifty dollar item you might have to sell 5 or 10 more to make up the loss. Flea and tic meds are kept in a safe in the office and a card explaining the product is in the aisle that you bring to the register with you, same for electric training collars. A three month supply of Advantix II can cost $80.

I don't even TOUCH anything in Walmart that I'm not going to buy.
I quit wearing my identification on my outer garment after I watched a guy put something in his coat but after noticing me , pulled the item out and put it back on the shelf. I certainly don't want to get crosswise of some doped up shoplifter over an ID badge and I don't mess with petty theft.

Seriously, they went to that approach when they went to open 24 hours.
The theft loss went through the roof, so they started implementation of
anything they could think of to minimize losses.
 
Of all the retail merchants, Walmart has the least to complain about being ripped off. They have systematically ripped off their customers for years by not marking each item on the shelf. They put a price for items on the rack and when you get to the checkout it will ring up a higher price. When called on it, the customer and all those in line behind them, have to wait until Walmart sends one of their people to verify what you say. If it is found to be the case, they call it a computer glitch and vow to fix it. The only way it gets fixed is if an investigative reporter does a story on it. I have experience this tactic enough to quit shopping at some of their stores. Some items they sell can be purchased at a better price at places like Home Depot. That should tell you something since Home Depot claims to never run sales because they already market their products at the lowest price that they can sell them for. I bought a Marlin 22 magnum rifle from the store in Abilene once and they would not let me carry it to the door. They escorted me to the door and handed it to me outside and I didn't even purchase ammo with it. As far as me having any sympathy for Walmart, I have none. For all the good they do, they do ten time as much bad. It is not the company Mr. Sam started and that is a shame.
 
Walmart sucks and can kiss my a I mean my backside. Our local store now has self checkouts the customer does it all you check yourself out and bag your stuff. As for me I am not a store clerk so as I scan I don’t know if it rings up properly or not but it goes in the bag then out the door with me and when they ask to check my receipt I tell them I already did thank you.
 
Just yesterday I went to a high dollar paint shop, er... I mean make up store with my wife. We found the item and it had a security device on it. I've never seen one like it before. About 1-1/4" square and 3/8 deep. I'm wandering around waiting for her to finish and the dang thing started beeping in my hand after about 3 minutes. About every twenty seconds after it started it would beep two or three times. Got really annoying.

On the same trip I bought a Hornady reloading manual at Bass Pro. They had to verify I was 21 to buy it!

It's getting really annoying to buy anytning.
 
A few years ago we bought a computer chair at walmart. They got us one out of the back like the display model. We noticed the box top had been cut open and retaped. Got it home and besides the chair there was about a $1,000 worth of loot stuffed around it! Stuff like cd`s, video games, movies, baby cloths etc. We took it back to the store and the security guy says "I guess we have a interior problem here." Evidently the scam was some employee had been stealing stuff, packing it in the box with the computer chair they wanted to buy with their employee discount but we bought it out from under them! We got a $20 gift card in appreciation for our honesty.
 
A couple of weeks ago I bought a bottle of Jack Daniels and the clerk asked me if I was 21? I'm 80 years old half bald, have a beard and no teeth and the idiot can't figure I just might be over 21? :roll: I actually had to show my ID. :shock: Dunno what I can say about that other than, we're doomed. :cry:

When I worked for the Company that made Sears paints, I use to have to visit stores regarding customer complaints; There was a store in the WATTS area of LA where in the automotive dept ALL the tools and other small items were WIRED down on peg boards and you had to get a clerk to UNLOCK a drawer and get the part out for you. OH YEAH; ALL the cash registers had cameras aimed at them. I saw store security catch a guy trying to steal a TV set too. Out in the parking lot there was an observation tower to catch thieves trying to break into autos.

Walmart?? I shop there and I watch the prices, if you wonder about the price they DO have scanners around the store where you can scan the bar code; Never had a problem of being mischarged; maybe the store needs new Management, I ALSO DO NOT use the self checkout, they aint paying ME or giving me a discount for DIY.
 
Oh yeah I forgot something. Out in the parking lot there was this structure on wheels like for towing behind a car. At first I though it was some kind of temporary light. It was a tower about 25 or so feet tall and had a big solar panel for power. I think it was some kind of security thing that watched over the whole parking lot.
 
This summer we came out of walmart to find my Avalon bumper and front end tore off. I went in the store to see if they would let me check the parking lot video. Don't think they would and they wouldn't because I wasn't a cop. Called the police and they checked it. I had parked along side a high truck. A woman got in, turned too sharp, pulled my bumper off and kept going. Officer said the way her truck bounced no way did she not know, but kept going. I have a $1,000 deductible. Damage was around $2900 IIRC. They said the video didn't show her tags.
I asked again to see the video myself and was refused. Guarantee you if it was the officers car they would have put more work into it, but he agreed it wasn't exactly a murder case so they didnt when I popped off. He had said the video did show her looks pretty good.

On the other hand, if you self-checkout, you can be certain the checkout person can read and do simple arithmetic.

In all the incidents I or my officers investigated in a walmart or other business parking lot we were never able to get a plate number. At best we could could figure out make and model of the suspect vehicle and maybe graphics if it was a business vehicle. Surveillance cameras for parking lots don't provide sufficient detail. Real life ain't like TV shows.

I've seen them here in Philly. At least the ones I saw were actually security kiosks to call for help. During normal times of the year, the vast parking lots are empty, but during the Holidays, cars are parked all the way out to the "South Forty". These kiosks allow folks in trouble a shorter run to a means of contact.

Of course, at the tops of the masts, there are clusters of cameras, which isn't an entirely bad thing.

I have owned stock in Walmart for nearly 25 years.

As a stock holder I recieve yearly reports showing who owns stock in the company.

You might be surprised as to the number of Union pension plans that own stock in Walmart.

So......when some start bashing and wish for the demise of Walmart, you could be wishing financial issues with pension plans.
 
The part that torqued me was there were people wherever you looked. You would think someone would have reported seeing it happen and wrote down the tag. I aint a cherry on either end of this as I did 35 years working as a security guard for Lockheed, we also had cameras.

Yes sir, I'm aware of your extensive experience as a security officer as I have read many of your posts detailing your experience. That why I guess that I was a bit surprised that you didn't seem to realize the inherent limitations of surveillance cameras and instead faulted the officers lack of effort.

I do agree that it's a shame that citizens seeing an event like that won't take the simple non-hazardous step of being a good witness.
 
The officer said he was able to get a clear good look at the woman on the camera. That's what I wanted to look at along with the truck for features. I had seen the truck when I parked alongside it but didn't scrutinize it. This town aint THAT big and I get out every day. Had I been allowed to check the film odds are good I might spot it. Best I got was he took my number and said if HE spotted it he would give me a call. I didn't hold my breath.
When I was a company security guard, (That was a big place with many employees and a huge department) what we had going for us was the fact people likely knew most other workers. They had a good job to lose, not just a ticket. Many years ago (about 1962) I came out of a store and found a note on my windshield. I saw this party back into your car door. They had wrote the license number on the note. I went to the police station, they ran the plate and gave me the mans address. Think they would do that today?
 
I bought a .22 Chipmunk rifle for my niece. As the clerk was carrying the boxed rifle to the checkout, I thought about how silly it was, especially as my LCP was in my back pocket.
 
Couple of weeks ago my wife bought me another electric razor. I gave it an honest try. I used the thing 3 times and told her to take it back. I have a light beard and it could not give me a close shave and pulled the hair on my neck. Back to my real razor and yes it's aggravating to buy new blades!! :?
