Having just taken out about a dozen hornets nests this week, I'd have grabbed a can of spray to stop that guy. It shoots well out to 20 feet and would hurt like hell to get blasted in the face.
We weren’t allowed any defense type tools at work. Just so happened at the same time they removed all the fire extinguishers from our test cars. (insurance was afraid we’d get hurt fighting a fire) Four of those little devils sat nearby for my last 6 years of work.
Maybe in Traverse City, but Burton has one for 20 years, and there are other areas with Wally for many years. I would never think of Traverse City as a good Wally's location.

I just read an article by a Socialist leaning rag that the National Shooting Sports Foundation (gun manufacturers and dealer association) has published a report that the conclusion is: "because there are so many people carrying concealed that people feel unsafe". Wholly Cow! The NSSF publishing a report with this conclusion? Naw, many people carry concealed because we feel "unsafe" in the World we live in. This has been the case since the State Mental Institutions opened their doors and cities allowed people to live "on the streets". When seconds count the police are minutes away. The recent folding knife event at the Wal-Mart in Michigan is in the forefront of my mind. The bystanders had control of the perpetrator, then you hear the wail of a siren in the video.

Perhaps, but I think the visual presence of that gun may have had an effect on the perp's response

Some people would have gained their courage to gather around AFTER they saw somebody had a gun.

My understanding is that the guy in the purple shirt, also a former marine, shoved a shopping cart into the nutcase and confronted him first. He said that when the guy with the gun came over the slasher became less combative and he was able to get him on the ground and take away the knife. They then held him for the police. It was a group effort.
Nah, with the 21 foot rule being "common knowledge" and the vid showing the proximity to the knife wielder who has already demonstrated his willingness to use the knife I don't think you have a duty to tell him to drop it.

I have seen and been involved in a 21’ test quite a few times and been stabbed most of them.
Being involved in a test you would know better than most, thanks!
Add to that in a test the armed subject would know that a knife wielding attacker was about to attack which gives the subject a decided reactionary advantage no matter how small over one in a real life scenario.
I didnt like that you had been stabbed. but that you shared another false sense of security idea out there.
