WOW Just finished watching all 26 episodes of Victory At Sea
What a great series. I had not seen it since around 1957.

I do have a question. I just don't understand why the Britts and Aussies and probably more Commonwealth Countries wear those shorts into combat. These troops are fighting in the jungles of Borneo to the desert of Egypt. I sure would want some protection from the bugs and rocks/sand.
In 1960 the USAF class B uniform was Bermuda shorts and a Bush Jacket along with a Pith Helmet. I hated them

Anyway a great series. I don't know if it is on TV now it should be. :wink:

The music was written by Richard Rogers, of the famous team of Rodgers and Hammerstein of Broadway fame. Mr. Rodgers more than once stated that the music for Victory at Sea was his finest work and that of which he was most proud. The series itself was outstanding, and reflects a time when Americans were PROUD of the accomplishments of our Armed Forces in defeating our WWII enemies, and not hiding the hardships we endured in doing that.

Shorts are stupid for any action/work/combat scenario,IMO. Besides,some guys look really stupid wearing them. :lol:

I can't figure out why any man over about 10 would wear shorts anyway. Ever try to change a tire or fix fences etc. Without long pants on?

At considerable pestering my parents would let me stay up to watch VAS, which was on at, I believe, 9PM. The VAS album was the first 'record' that I bought. The program is in the top 10 TV of my all time favorites.

Y'all know that if you watch VAS on utube, your puter is automatically targeted as belonging to a potential domestic terrorist, right? The NSA vacuums up everything. :wink:

I remember some Aussies in Nam wearing shorts and that strange hat :lol: Nice guys but I always wondered why do they wear shorts in the bush? Oh :shock: they also liked warm beer. Eric

I have the LP of the soundtrack, one of my treasures. I grew up watching it in the 50s but when I tried watching it a few years ago I found it dated.

To me that is the good part about it. It was the way we were before all the PC, BS. Everybody pulled together for one cause. Think about how great that must have been.
It made me appreciate all the sacrifices made by the Troops and the home front. It is just amazing how the logistics worked to get the supplies to those that needed them. Also the ships that had to be built to do it. Now take into account all the stuff lost do to Subs and other combat ships.
It was our subs that crippled the Japs supply line.

I down load 'em Burn up the bandwidth just one time. Takes 30 minutes to watch one on line, and about 8 minutes to download it! lol

I found it in the discount bin at WallyWorld a few years ago, re-mastered for stereo and on CD's, all 26 episodes for $5. Magnificent!

AH YES; The Music for "Victory at Sea" was 12 hours long. I LOVED the introductory piece and could play the opening bars on my French horn from memory. I had seen all of the combat footage (UNEDITED) while a Navy Dependent (Don't ask me why they showed it to us) and the casualties were left in.
