Vaquero Hammer

Can a old Model Vaquero hammer be put on a New Model Vaquero,Just don't like how high the new hammer is.The old style is better to me.Thanks for any help.

NV 44 spl Sheriff's Model with NM FT Blackhawk hammer (same as original Vaq.) also Colt ejector rod and Belt Mtn. Colt-style cyl pin.

Also I got 12 clicks(one from the plunger and one from the pawl for each chamber) because the hammer didn't fully retract the pawl like the original hammer did.

No, the hammer and the transfer bar worked together perfectly. I presume it was due to similar vintage of the hammer and the NV. But I have had to do that on unmodified new guns on occasion. If you don't, an eventual broken transfer bar is the result in some cases.

You mean 12 clicks for one complete rotation of the cyl with the loading gate open (2 clicks per chamber). It's not unusual on an unmodified NV and NM Flat top BH to hear both the cyl pawl and chamber alignment pawl click as you rotate from one chamber to the next. Although most will only have the alignment pawl single click, it's not an issue if there are two clicks, the guns function correctly.
Just a slight difference in the fitting of the cyl pawl.
