Vaquero 44-40

Recently sent the 44-40 Vaquero off to have the .425 throats opened up and to have a Bisley 44 Magnum cylinder fitted.

Shot it yesterday with Winchester 44-40 Cowboy loads and PMC 180 grain JHP 44 Specials. A few licks with a file got the gun shooting close to POA. I am going to hold off any more file work pending final decision on a load.

Interestlingly, the 180 grain 44 Special and the 225 grain 44-40 Cowboy load shot more or less to the same POI. A pleasant surprise.

If you ever get an idea to shoot black powder, you'll find the Vaquero in 44-40 caliber absolutely shines! (Those old timers knew a thing or two when they came up with this caliber!) Enjoy it with BP or smokeless!
