She's 18,000 ft down in the Phillipine Sea.

I tried to read it, but the rag covered it up with an ad for WaPo. Then locked up my iPad to the point I had to turn it off, and back on to get back on the Internet.

Fox and other sites are carrying the same story.

A friend of mines dad took the Indy from CA to HI (where he was reassigned to the MO) it then continued on to deliver the bombs. He was chief on the MO when Japan surrendered.

Those poor souls on the Indianapolis went through hell. I hope they rest in peace.

I consider Quint's soliloque from the movie Jaws to be the absolute finest 2 minutes of film ever recorded.

"1100 men went into the water 316 came out, the sharks took the rest. I'll never put on a life jacket again."

One of the books on the ship I read was pretty much slammed by most of the survivors. It came out in the 70's or 80's.
And while it defended the captain it brought to the fore homosexuality in the navy. Most accounts I've read did in fact defend the captains decision not to zig zag.

Talking head on KMBC Kansas City this morning said twelve thousand (12000) on board when she went down, they don't stop to think about what they're saying.

Talking heads aren't good at math. Extra zero in that one, and significant rounding error. Tells me they don't really give a damn about what they are reporting on, just spout whatever is on the prompter.

I have mixed feelings about finding these kinds of historic sites... I hope they leave her alone. These days I don't trust anyone to properly respect a sacred artifact such as this.

Thanks for this Gunny. - DixieBoy

No thanks necessary. I simply feel it is my duty to bring this kind of thing out in the open to point out that this country was not founded on, nor flourished from, appeasement and cowardice.

I realize that, to many of the current generation, this and other parts of our history is irrelevant to today. I feel sorry for them in way, that they have no appreciation for the sacrifices made by their ancestors, as well as mine. :(

It seems that all they know or appreciate, comes to them in a 128 character tweet from some anonymous pajama boy. :(

The Navy has already classified the location of the site, and designated it as a official war grave, which means it is protected by law from disturbances. In addition, very few people have the resources to get down to 18,000Ft, even if the location was leaked.
