It would appear that USFA is done building revolvers. Click on their old web address and you get a new page touting their new "Zip" products. Letter there from Dave Donnely would indicate that they are done with the old product. Ten Ring Precision, Inc., seller of many USFA revolvers also says they are history. Lucky me, I have several...
 
It's a shame, but it's been coming for quite awhile. I don't know how many times I almost ordered one of their fine SA's... :(
 
No, they're not out of the SA biz.
They still run that side of the operation, they still have the SA site up.
I just Googled it again & found it easily, and if you get diverted to the ZIP site go way up to the top left where there's a link to the SA site.
And it's Doug, not Dave. :)

From my understanding, yes, they are still making SA's... but... the USFA SA's are now a "custom shop item". You can order one and at some point in time (I heard 24 months) you will get the gun you ordered.
They jumped in on the cowboy action band wagon and the excitment of that game is waning. With Uberti and Ruger supplying single action revolvers for a lot less than the price of a USFA, I don't see how they could stay in the game. Yes they were nice; but if I were going to spend that much for a Colt clone... I'd buy a real Colt.

...And yes for now it appears very limited, with most if not all of the specialty models (Pre War, Double Eagle etc) gone. Maybe available custom shop as mentioned earlier, but nowhere in sight here. It"s telling that the toolbar across the top has no readily accessible tab for "products."

There's a very good reason why I have four USFA's and one Colt. USFA's simply builds a better gun for less money or a vastly superior sixgun for the same money. The difference between a $1200 USFA Pre-war and a $1200 new Colt is night and day.

Don't get defensive, I never said that they weren't good. They were excellent.
If someone were to take a USFA and lay it out on a table, most passers by would look and probably say "Nice Colt".
Years ago, I had an EMF Hartford. I think those were Armi San Marco built. It was laying out on the bench at the range and every passer by glanced and said "Nice Colt".
At this point in time it would be hard to determine what type of value the USFA guns will ultimately acquire as the years pass.
With everything going on politically in this country, just about any gun is at a premium value.
Years from now, will the number of people who knew who USFA was and what they did, outnumber those who know of Colt?

They are very nice guns... enjoy them!
 
USFA is still in the SA business. According to a recent phone call to USFA, they have a 2 year backlog they are catching up on and will begin to accept new orders after the 1st of the year. Although you may have to wait 2 years to get your gun, it's worth the wait. I'll take my USFA's over the current run of Colts any day.

Their Lightnings were very nice! I have a friend who has one, had one? It's been a while since I've seen it. Very sweet rifle. I couldn't afford one while they were making them; but I have a Pedersoli now... those are very nice as well.
If I could get my hands on any of the guns that USFA had ever made I would like a pair of the Omnipotents. Yup... I know they are freakin' weird looking.... it's why I like them :)
 
A number of years ago, I bought a single action USFA. Mine is a blue/casehardened 4 3/4" .44 Special. It has a wonderful action and shoots extrememly well. It is as nice or nicer than a friend's 2nd generation Colt SAA.

I'm glad I bought mine.
 
I had a really nice 7 1/2" 44 Special Flattop Target with fancy checkered French walnut grips but just could not warm up to the piece so down the road it went. Finely assembled for sure.

I couldn't get USFA to build a New Frontier clone ( Flattop frame would have been perfect), but they went to the trouble and expense of the Omni...

:lol: I, too, wanted USFA to make a New Frontier clone and I would have snapped it up in a NY minute. USFA seemed to have made more than a few odd balls though. I sure would have liked to have seen one of their 1911's!

USFA is still in business...if you count producing 48 revolvers on 2011 as "being in business".

If you find a used one you like, how do you know if it was assembled from Italian parts or is all American made?
 
I do a lot of Business with Alex Hamilton of Ten Ring Precision. When I first went in, he had a stack of USFA's that was six foot high and four foot wide. I saw him a week ago and he had two, the one I was picking up and another that was on layaway. He was such a high volume dealer he has visited the factory. The last time he was there, he told me he just wanted to cry, the machinery and whole process was neglected and idled.
I have been trying for 8 months to get them to make a 327 federal magnum cylinder for use in 32-20 USFA and I keep getting put off.
 
Cryptic email from them saying "this" may be all that's left.
I'll check further at SHOT this coming week.

We haven't heard from our friend Gary Granger in awhile (was jointly emoloyed by USFA and Frontier (?) Firearms. Last I spoke with him (3 years?), his role with the company had been diminished--a bad sign--and there was much less "customizing"/special ordering he could do on the customer's behalf (checking to see if a gun was in current line for production and could be intercepted for some aspect, or tracking down a hard to find one, etc. He was incredibly helpful/knowledgeable instrumental in my getting two of them--Gunfighters before their price went up near the Pre Wars'...sold them awhile back but got a pair of NOS Rodeo .44 Sp's from Trail Creek Trade Co. three or so years ago,...they're also maybe worth a call re "whassup?" - as they know Gary very well and have been one of the larger USFA customers.

I figured there was a very good chance of that awhile back.
And amending my previous, I believe his other association was with Frontier Classic Firearms--also there in Connecticut, and which I also don't see any more.
 
Email PR from USFA today, I wasn't aware the bolt on the Zipper's plastic & designed to be replaced after 5000 rounds.
