In the AZ oven (Phoenix basin)
Received a filter set for my under sink filtration unit (kitchen) and it had a broken
part (yawn). Returned it asking for a replacement (another yawn). In the replacement
process, Amazon recommends letting UPS package it. HEY, fine with me!
Went to drop it off yesterday and the UPS store was VERY busy. I commented that
I only needed to drop it off, yet was going to have to wait quite a while and one lady
said to put mine on top of hers and she would drop it off for me. HEY, NEAT!!

Well I have been watching the return online and as of a few minutes ago, it STILL
didn't show as received (OH BLEEP). Well . . . . turns out that when you let UPS
package it, it enters their system at a different point (easiest way to say it) and the
package does NOT show up on "normal tracking". OOPS.

Went to the online "Contact Us" for Amazon and in a few minutes had the answer
I was hoping for, that it had in fact been received and was in transit.

I think from now on, I'm going to rely on the other process (I package it) because
you get a receipt as you drop it off and it is reflected in the return within minutes.
(even if I would have had to get my mask from the car and wait).

Oh the joys ( ) of the WooHooFlu. . .

Good outcome, but since the parts are $65 I was needlessly a bit concerned. 8)

Interesting this new Amazon return procedure, and I've used it multiple times. Sometimes I get an immediate notification that the return is on the way, an immediate credit, and sometimes I never get the notification and credit til it's actually in Amazon's hands. Either way, it's always worked, and for me it's convenient.

Now, the receipt thing...At my nearest UPS store, I get a receipt when I drop off a return. At another store, they insist they can't give me a receipt. So I guess it's up to the whim of the individual UPS store operator.

Further, I've discovered the big online sellers to be extremely customer tolerant. Amazon, QVC, HSN, and more, do a huge business and it's in their best interest to trust their customers. If a return was misappropriated, I fully believe if I told them I returned the item as directed, they'd say okay, we believe you.

Very recently my wifes new and relatively high dollar electric toothbrush ( ) took a dump. QVC had a replacement in the mail immediately, and the customer servant said return the old one one if we feel like it, as the actual return really doesn't matter in the largest scheme of things.

Pat; it could possibly be your UPS location as well. I’ve used their system when they package the return and I get a receipt, the return usually shows up within minutes of me leaving the store. Perhaps your store doesn’t scan the package right away? Or they leave the returns to be packaged until the last of the day and do them all at once?

And that's what I understand. They don't actually package the individual returns. They put them in a bin, and when the bin is full they ship the full bin. Individual stores may not scan the item until they actually put it in a bin.

Quite possible. However I just checked the UPS number and it showed as shipped
less than five minutes after I left it off. Right now it's headed for Lost Wages (the
Amazon primary return place, at least from here), and everything is happy.
I also think there is a difference between UPS clocks and the ones I use (oh well). :)

I still think I'm going to package it myself, from now on so I have the receipt in hand.
It's not that I distrust anyone, just that I've had too many that "get lost" for a few
days, to weeks.

Like I said, everything is going fine and I'm happy. 8)
Just wanted to make note of the difference in online look-up of status. :D

P.S. The replacement is due to arrive in the next two hours. 8)

Locally, maybe nationally, Kohl's will take Amazon returns. No packaging required. I got a return receipt immediately and my Amazon credit within hours.

This is how I've handled my last couple of Amazon returns. Best system ever, although now, in our current situation, I probably wouldn't go that route.

My wife uses the drop off method (they package it) for returns and at the time of handing over the product they scan the return authorization that amazon e-mails you when you let them know you're returning an item, right off her phone, she get an almost instant e-mail showing the item received for return, never been a problem.

Two things:
1) I would have to had stayed in line for the next ten to twenty minutes
(you remember, masks, distancing, etc)
2) I use my phone as a phone that does other things; not a hand held computer
that you can make phone calls with.

I've dropped off Amazon returns at a UPS store many times, a few times they packaged it.
We have always been credited back that day , usually in less a hour, my wife has called me before I made the 10 minute drive home to tell me the credit had processed.

I usually print out the label myself for an Amazon return and package the item, then drop it at a Pak N' Ship store near me, but I don't get a receipt. Its never been a problem and I get an email shortly afterwards telling me that I have been credited for the return. In the past I have only used the drop off of unpacked merchandise at Kohl's a few times, and that was for relatively large items, like an air fryer that I bought but did not like, and had already disposed of the box that it had been shipped to me in. It worked OK other than having to wait on line at the Customer Service desk at Kohl's.

I know some here on the forum are not big fans of online ordering, and from Amazon especially. But their process for ordering items is so ridiculously simple and efficient, their delivery and shipping at no cost to me for most items, and their return system so simple as well that now I think of Amazon as a source for things I want as my first option, and local purchase as my second option. Of course during this pandemic with so many stores closed, Amazon has become even more convenient and sensible to use. And there are many items that I would have no idea where to find in a regular retail store that I can find easily online. Just yesterday I decided to try a "belly band" as a means of concealed carry for later in the summer when I might be wearing shorts that do not support a heavy gun belt. I know that none of my local gun stores are likely to have just what I wanted, but it took me only a minute to look at the various choices on Amazon and to pick the one I want. Knowing that if I am not totally satisfied I can easily return it for full credit makes it even more of an attractive way to buy things.
