Tomorrow, my urethra is being invaded by a scope inserted you know where. The urologist will be
looking at my prostate, bladder and maybe my kidneys depending on what they see.
Not looking forward to this including nipping pieces out of the preceding places.
Last time I bled a lot had to have a catheter for several days. Not looking forward to this…..
Anyone want to take my place??

Relax, it may not be as bad as you suspect.

Early in my treatments, at one point, I had something like 12 catheters inserted in 8 weeks. Yes, Mr. Wiggley was angry for a spell.

I was at the VA today and they wanted to perform that same procedure...I said no so they went about it with a sonogram machine and they saw what they wanted to see and all was ok. Good luck

Good luck! I had a radical prostatectomy in 2011 using a surgical robot. When I woke up I had a tube hanging out of my dingdong that could have fueled the Exxon Valdez. Fortunately since the surgery I haven't had to have anything else shoved up there.

Been there , done that, and I am still around and doing much better after the 'nipping' they did on the prostrate. Some will remember the 'difficulties' I had a couple years ago while at the Gathering. The 'rotor rooter' actually was a blessing in disguise.

Fortunately, I think I just barely missed the worst of it ... so far. In the past 3-4 years I had the standard 12 sample biopsy (twice) where they send the octopus tentacle up the pooper chute and pop the biopsy needle through to the one side of the prostate they can reach. Both times the samples came back benign. The symptoms didn't get any better, the PSA got up to near 12 so a couple of months ago the doc decided I needed to have a specifically designed MRI on the prostate. The MRI showed several suspect specs so he decided to do the 40 sample "Surgical biopsy" so they could be satisfied in ruling out cancer. No one even told me the details concerning that procedure, so I looked it up a couple of weeks before it was done. In my East Texas redneck, land surveyor mind I determined it to be similar to "setting up the core sample drilling rig on the vacant lot between the waste disposal system effluent and the amusement park". Lucky for me, they gave me a good dose of knock out first. When I woke up in the recovery room, the doc came by to see how I was doing, and I related to him my above description of procedure. Blank look, eyes came to life and he busted out laughing. It was about a week before he called me in to his office for the results ... he said that I was the only victim .... uh, patient ... of quite a few he had seen on his consultation day that tested completely benign, and "see you next year". I'm not sure how long this will last though.

I remember my emergency appendectomy in 1978. A Nurse announced that I needed a catheter inserted in my urethra in prep for surgery. Mr. Johnson retreated into my abdomen when the male Nurse came in with what was surely a garden hose with brass nozzle. I was amazed he could get it all in there. Felt better once inserted but, man, I would not want to go through that again!

Been there, done that...TWICE... That's two times too many. But I have what might be a unique perspective on it, as the first time was about 40 years ago and the second time was about 2 years ago. The 40-year-old one, the thing they stuck up there looked like a 3/8 inch diameter stainless steel rod...YIKES!! That hurt like a (numerous expletives withheld). The second time wasn't fun either, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the first as it was a very thin, flexible, fiberoptic kind of device. In my case, they were just looking, so no samples were taken. Good luck with your procedure.

I had it done some 18 years ago, not fun. When they pulled the catheter out they told me to breathe in deeply and then cough. When they pulled it out it looked like she was starting a lawnmower it was so long!

I bled like a stuck pig... NOT fun.

I'm getting what I call a level 2 inspection* on April 24th... I tried to get by with the poop in a bucket method again but I think my doctor told the lab to mess with the results....
*In the chimney sweep business a level 2 inspection is running a camera up the flue.
I'm reasonably sure just about everything I have neck down is falling apart. (I just realized some here are going to say, "above the neck up too."

I've had a few visits myself....when I had my knee replacement surgery a couple years back I woke up when the Doc was pounding on me. No kidding. I thought it was pretty cool. They wheeled me to recovery and the recovery nurse was surprised I was awake. She said we may as well get started early since I was already awake. She did her stuff, which included a sonagram that showed my bladder was full. She handed me one of those plastic pee jugs....but I didn't have the urge. Probably because I had a epidural and had no feeling? Anyway that was a no go so out came the bore snake and up my snorkel it went to drain my bladder....when she finally pulled it out I said "did you pull out in time?" she was a young cute thang and she started laughing so hard she was crying. I overheard her telling another nurse and they all got a laugh and I got a few winks when they walked by.

A few month after my knee replacement I was back in for kidney cancer surgery. During PT for my knee recovery I began to have severe pain in my back. When they performed an MRI they saw something that led to a lot more imaging/testing/biopsy and yep a cancer diagnosis. Back was put on hold....anyway, when I woke up from the Nephrectomy I had the bore snake up my snorkel and a tube sticking out my side.....pee going to one bag and whatever going to another bag. The worst was every night the nurse would come in to clean the (Folly?)......the night nurse was a guy......Pulling the bore snake out of my snorkel wasn't as bad as them pulling that tube out of my side.

I'm currently waiting on a SI Joint fusion......first thing I asked the surgeon was if I will be getting my barrel cleaned.....

Same with me. Twice. Once with appendectomy and the second time when I was re-admitted for them to clean out infection. Both times male nurse. Both of us did not like it.

You have my sympathy. I have a "surgical biopsy" on my prostate April 7th.

Will they give you anything to make it easier? Had the one done with the balloon to check for reflux from my bladder to kidney. I’m missing several body parts thru accidents and surgeries and have many tests and procedures done.Nothing compares to that one it was 20 years ago I can remember it like it was ten minutes ago. I don’t know the size of what they’re using for you but the test they did on me should have not been done without something for the pain

I had that procedure once and had to stay overnight. My 5 yo son went to daycare and told everyone I was in the hospital….

Definitely not pleasant. A few years ago I had a urolift for an enlarged prostate. The urologist forgot to mention that he might have to insert a catheter. Wasn't until I was being prepped did the nurse bring it up. I was pretty much going to forget the whole thing until the urologist said he would try not to insert one. RIGHT. When I came out the anesthesia there it was. Had to wear it for a few days and taking it out wasn't real pleasant. Best of luck to you.

Had a cystoscopy done a few years ago...unpleasant but not as horrible as I thought. We should all be grateful for modern medical advances. When my father had it done back in the late '50s they used a large rigid stainless steel tube with a lens. He later told me it was pure hell.

Well, hopefully by now everything is done and is OK. I’ve had the colonoscopy part and that wasn’t too unpleasant with the right doctor. As I put this down, I’m currently sitting in the doctors office waiting for him to come in to tell me what he needs to do to me next. Maybe 27 March is a special day on the doctors calendar.
