I read Tom Clancey alot and I run in to "starnge" words alot. I am 74 and it seems folks say things now. I grew up being told
to just come out and say what you have to say. Ask a questio
straight out loud and clear. Nobody can say they don't understand you. Some of the discussions after dinner......?
Ya....I'm still ALIVE.....! sisters!

bifurcated

That was a word I got introduced to when I started working around grain elevators. At the time, there were few hopper cars (rail cars) so boxcars were pressed into service. The discharge spout was "bifurcated" to send a stream two directions toward the ends of a boxcar.

Although, I read the original Ian Fleming's books about James Bond in the 60's, it was not until the 90's that I realized what the word 'adjective' means and thereafter my writing improved. Fleming used numerous descriptive words, including brand names to make the reader feel like he was in the story.

Physicality

Although it is a word in the dictionary. I never heard anyone use it until a few years ago on Dancing with the stars one night. Yes, I use to watch that show. Now everyone is using it, football announcers, newscasters even on hunting shows. I guess it makes them sound like they know what they are talking about.
