This situation started a little more than 3 weeks ago. I am on several forums and buy and sell different items in the classifieds of each forum. In browsing the classifieds 3 wks ago, I saw a nice sized lot of brand new 7BR brass advertised on this particular forum, for a great price. So, I sent the member a pm and he replied a couple of days later to tell me the brass was still available and that as soon as he got home from his vacation, he would let me know so that we could conclude the transaction. This past Sunday, I got a pm from him providing his address and telling me that it was fine to go ahead and send the payment. I mailed the payment on Monday and had not thought much more about it. Well, this morning at 11:54am my phone rings and the lady on the other end identified herself, verified my identity and then told me that she was the DIL of this gentleman. Then she proceeds to tell me that the gentleman had passed away, unexpectedly, on Tuesday morning. She said that a box, prepared for shipping, was found along with my phone number. She was calling to see if I was expecting something from the gentleman and, if so, that they would get it in the mail as soon as possible.

I have bought and sold countless gun items all over this country and have never had a problem in any fashion...and it appears that even in death, most gun folks follow through with there commitment.

Great story. Sure makes you feel good to run across folks with responsibility and integrity as part of their personal code. His DIL shows pure class! :D

While not all, for the most part, gun folks & their families are good honest folks. If it were me, I'd cherish the brass, thinking of this family when I used it.

I had a slightly similiar experience except it went the other way.

A young gentleman going to Penn State contacted me about doing a transfer for 2 AR lowers he was buying. Not a problem. He ordered them and they came in about 10 days later. Sent him an email to set up the transfer and he said he would be available after spring break, he was spending time with his folks. Again, no problem, they go in the safe and wait for him to contact me to set up the transfer. Nothing happens for about two weeks so I send an email. No reply. A week later, I send another email, no reply again. About once a week I sendan email Its been a couple months now, I've emailed him, tried his cell phone (no answer, no VM) no replies at all.

One day I get a email from a guy that identifies himself as a friend of the guy that ordered the lowers. He tells me that the guy, while in Philadelphia (now you can probably see where this is going), with his folks, was in a "normally" nice area at the wrong time and was murdered. His friend wants to know if he can pick up the lowers. Nope, sorry, the lowers are now part of this young mans estate. I told him to tell the guys dad to contact me and we can work out what to do with the lowers.

Dad contacts me, they are not gun people and he doesn't know what to do. I told him that I could sell them on consignment, or if one of his friends wants to buy them he could release them to the new buyer (I told him I would need a notarized letter to that effect) as he was his sons estate executor, or I could get in contact with the seller and see if they would take them back. He asked me to contact the seller (IIRC it was PSA). I talked to them and they said they would take them back and refund his credit card the full amount, no restocking fee (nice of them). Talked to the Dad and told him I would get them shipped back and they should see a refund on the CC. Told him how much it would cost to ship them (not much using a USPS flat rate box). He sent me a check for $100 (way more than the shipping cost), saying that I did him a favor and he appreciated it.
