I want a new unlocked cell phone but don't want to buy from Amazon. Two friends have ended up with counterfeit iphones. Who is good to buy from at cheaper prices? I know iphone is not cheap.

Put the make of the phone you want and add the word "unlocked" in a search and the sellers names will come up.

They bought counterfeit phones from Amazon? Are you sure? You can buy a Motorola phone from them. The "Moto G" I think it is. Try Craigslist or eBay.

An unlocked cell phone is one which is not made to work on a specific network. For example if you have an AT&T contract and go to one of their stores for a new phone, it won't work for Sprint or Verizon for example.

Buy direct from Apple?

I thought all new iPhones were carrier unlocked already?

I bought an old 5c from a person that was a Verizon phone and it worked just fine for my daughter on T-Mobile

There are counterfeit and refurbished iphones on ebay refurbished with aftermarket fake parts

I bought mine directly from Apple last December. IIRC, I paid right at $500 for a 6S with 32(?)GB, 4.7" display. I see they're $550 now. Not "cheap," but it's guaranteed authentic! At the time, they had a very competitive price.

I bought mine unlocked so I could use it here in Korea, and with a prepaid SIM when I'm on vacation in the States.

Why do you want to buy one? AT&T gave me mine when I signed up.

Bob - Is that a 'smart phone'? I'm with Verizon, and they want $400 for a smart phone. I just don't need a 400 dollar telephone! lol

What kind of phone are you wanting to buy? Basic phone? Smartphone? Android or Apple? I bought a Moto G4 from Amazon last fall and I really like it. If you have prime, it is only a hundred bucks. Downside for that price, is you get Amazon ads when you first open the phone. But you can spend a little more and just have a non Amazon ad phone. I am really cheap so I have the ads.
Other than that, I think you can find phones lots of places. I have bought unlocked phones from Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Costco, Microsoft and T-Mobile. Maybe more than that. We have six phones and never get a contract phone.

I bought mine directly from Motorola. $50 less than from Amazon.

It cost me $299 plus $15 for the SIM card (I wanted 4G), delivered.
Second day delivery.

I have mine set up for Verizon, NON contract. Non contract and unlocked
they tend to be very nice to you. 8)

I've had it for most of a year and am VERY happy with it.

P.S. It comes with a protective sleeve to make it far easier to hold on to
and yet increases the size only a tad.

P.P.S. I put in a 32G class 10 SD card for storage (whopping $11). :D

I am interested in switching from iPhone to Motorola. Is it made in the USA
with Corning Gorilla Glass?
Somehow I doubt it being made in the USA. There was something in the
box that indicated it was assembled less than a month before I received
it.

Gorilla Glass?
Take a look at their web site. I do not know.

I've also wanted one of the Motorola phones. I'm intrigued by their camera attachments they advertise. In the past I've heard they are assembled in California. But not sure if the current phones are made here or not.

Thanks,

I just bought online a Samsung Galaxy S5 brand new in the box. I paid 187.00 for it and it was mailed to my house. I use Verizon so I requested one to work with them. I removed my SIM card and SD memory card from my old Samsung and installed it into the S5. All my stuff transferred to the new one and I was up and running in no time. I haven't had a contract or a monthly payment for a cell phone in years. I bought the S5 because it is the last one Samsung made with a replaceable battery. I don't need the "newest" one made and my S5 should last me for a long time.

Where from please ?

I did a search and many online stores popped up. I looked on and off for a few weeks until I found the one I bought. The prices ranged from $187 to $229 for the new ones. Be sure to buy new as refurbished is offered also.
I am not at home so I can't look up the receipt. Do a search, they're there.

My 16GB iPhone is constantly giving me "out of memory" messages so I just ordered a referb 128GB iPhone to replace it. Supposed to be unlocked and compatible with my carrier. $299 on ebay and, if you're going to go that way, the seller had good feedback on other phones he's sold. I know it's taking a chance but I've had pretty good luck before so we'll see when it gets here. My 16GB iPhone is in perfect shape as I've always kept it in an "armored" case so I figure I can probably sell it and get back at least $150 on that (hopefully more).

Just a follow up on the above. Got the 128 GB iPhone today (2 day shipping time). Transferred all my stuff onto it without a hitch. It works flawlessly and now I don't have to continually go through and delete stuff. I'll even add back a few apps I had that I took off to save space. Anybody wants my excellent condition 16 GB iPhone 6 it's listed on eBay. Comes with an Otterbox case too.
