That's true for every generation. Few remember the Swing Era. Anyone around who remembers the Edwardian era?
Cell phones will lead to the collapse of society and the people in charge will be the few who can live without looking at their phones every fifteen seconds.
A few years back a friend was visiting. The weather was miserable so we put on a movie. He spent the entire run of the movie playing with his phone and then complained that he couldn't follow the movie.
My daughter does that as well. She'll say, "Let's watch XYZ" so I'll put it on. She spends the entire time poking at her phone, looking up periodically.
Same here. It is a generational thing.
I have my phone during movies. We usually hit pause on the movie and look up actors. Things like where we've seen them before, what other movies are they in, etc. For us, it makes the movie more fun, than just sitting together in silence.
As for the Apps. I don't like some of them. For example my daughter's school has a third party app. If a kid is sick, parents use the app to report lateness, or absence. But I have a big problem with a third party company knowing my daughter's schedule, doctors appointments etc. So I do use the app, but I don't write, dentist or doctor, I just say "Absent" or "Late."
It might not make a difference, but it makes me feel better.
Today, I'm getting my sprinklers fixed. We need a new controller. Yep, you guessed it, the Sprinkler repair guy told me to download an app.
But those apps are the fun ones.
