UltraLight 7mm-08

I remember when TALO issued the White Tail Classic version of the UltraLight in 7mm-08, and how bad I wanted one. Never got the chance to buy one.

But now, I see Davidsons has a whole bunch of the Hawkeye Ultralights, in 7mm-08. I just told my guy to get me one. :mrgreen:

I have one of the first issue mkII's, unetched, target grey. I've since dropped it into a walnut handle..... Love the looks of the T-G finish in wood....

I have a Hawkeye all weather ultralight in 204 Ruger and love it! Very accurate and light for carrying. Looks like a great price from Davidsons also. These must be leftovers from when they were in production. I already have a Remington Model Seven stainless 7mm-08 or I would be placing an order for one as I write this post!

This gun has been waiting for me at my FFL since December. Finally picked it up yesterday. :roll:

No chance to shoot it yet, but so far it pleases me.

A little question with the bolt, however...The electric-pencil-engraved s/n on the bolt does not match the s/n of the rifle. It's off by one number. A number of things could explain that, but I wish I didn't have to concern myself with the question.

This is a TALO gun. My dealer ordered and received just one, and I cannot imagine any situation where the boxed bolt would have been removed by anybody after it left the factory.

OTOH...What I did notice when I removed the bolt from the box containing the lock and bolt...I immediately thought the bolt was extremely dirty, not inconsistent with a bolt that had been fired for a long string at the range. But it was still soaked in heavy grease, not unlike any other bolt straight from the factory.

Mine really likes the Nosler Trophy Grade 140gr AccuBond ammo. It shot my handload of 140 grain BT with Ramshot Big Game powder into the same size group.

Haven't been in the market for 7mm/08 ammo for a long time. Was surprised to see my local stores out of that cartridge, too. :roll:

I did the same thing, took the whitetail classic ultra light and put it in a wood stock.

I did the same thing, took the whitetail classic ultra light and put it in a wood stock.

And that gorgeous wood does wonders for the otherwise utilitarian stainless.
