I would spend my money on a Trijicon Accupoint with a green dot cross hair in 3-9x40.

I have a 7mm M77 I acquired ~20 years ago and it sports a Burris 3-9x40.

I don't want all the grids and lines in many scopes these days.

I could make any number based on what you want to do with the rifle. Range use? Hunt, what? Hunt where? Distance you expect to be shooting. Price range? At least the scopes don't care if the gun bolt handle is on the right or left.

Well, I just picked up the rifle. I think I am going to use a 3x9x40 that I have on my American .308 and change that to some type of dot scope. I will mainly use the 7mm for deer hunting farther out in the hills from me.

I need to go over my existing guns with scopes to see what I like the best. The last time I shot was in July and my scope and glasses just fogged up from the humidity. I was shooting a .204 on the bench for its first time but I have to go back and finish. Thanks

My buddy has a vx-iii 3-9x40 with duplex cross hairs on his m77 tang safety 7mm. It's a great deer setup and the rifle shoots excellent with 140 grain pills (Barnes ttsx).

My M-77 in 7mm Rem Mag is an old round top with sights and has a Zeiss 3.5-15x on it with the Z-plex reticle. It's my elk rifle, and gets fed 175 grain Nosler Partition handloads exclusively.

I like the Burris Fullfield 3x9s. The reticle does have hold over dots but they're small and frankly I can hardly see them when out on a hunt. They're reasonably prices as well. Funny thing is I use them on 9X at the range but on a hunt after the shot I find the scope set at 3X. They were set that way on the two very longest shots I made on elk. One at 350 yard and the other at 530 yards, but laserd. There was one deer I took at 426 paces bur the scope on that rifle was a 4X Weaver K4 with duplex reticle.

Well you have the 3x9 40mm. Might as will try it out. 9x is not 12 or 14 but a lot of big game hunting it is hard to keep steady above 9x for many. At the range I like 14, or even 24 better but that's not in the field hunting where 9 power is pretty darn good. Beside the game and distance what position you expect to shoot from is also something to consider.

I went over my existing scopes and decided to go with the Leupold VX3 HD 3.5x10x40
Good choice, I have several and some more of different types of Leupold. I use the elevation dial on them, no more guessing or looking up ballistics. Zero at 100 yd, shoot 200 and then 300. Turning the dial until its zeroed again. I record the up clicks needed on each rifle. I would get true fired zeros further, but the range only goes to 300 yd. Most of my rifles, I am adding 4 clicks up from 100 to 200 and another 4 or more for a 300 yd zero.

The store owner installed the scope and went through the whole rifle for me because I bought it used. What an amazing job, we are loosing Gunsmiths around me do to age and nobody is carrying on it the profession. I am very happy with his work. I have heard he himself has passed 80 years old, I am buying tools to learn scope mounting myself.
