Just bought a Gen II in 7mm-08. I hope is shoots half as good as my Gen I in 243. For me, I've had an easier time getting my 308 rifles to group better than my 7mm-08 rifles. Gonna try this Gen II in 7mm-08 and see if it shoots. If it does, I'll put it into my deer hunting rotation. How have your Ruger 7mm-08 rifles shot for you guys?

I don't have a Ruger 7mm08 but the other brand (Howa, Savage, Remington) rifles are quite accurate with Hornady American Whitetail ammo. That's where I'd start.

I bought a 1st Gen American in 7-08 for my daughter and once I found the ammo it liked it was wonderfully accurate. I tried a bunch of Hornady ammo that everyone said was incredibly accurate and it all grouped like a pie plate. Federal stuff shot okay, but when I switched to Nosler 140 gr Accubond and it practically became a one hole gun. I should have tried that first since it shoots so well in my Cooper 7-08, but it was unavailable at the time, and I didn't want to use up what little I had. For a budget gun, I'm very impressed with the American series rifles. My go to all purpose rifle is my old M77 that's pushing 50 yo, so I have a soft spot for Ruger rifles, especially #1's.

The argument has been made numerous times the 7mm-08 was what the 308 shooda been. Little lighter bullet with better B.C. With less recoil. But with that being said I own 4-308's and 0 7mm-08's 😁😁

The 7mm-08 is a deer-slaying masterpiece of a cartridge, essentially a .308 that went to finishing school. It shoots flatter, hits with authority, and has less recoil.

The 1:8.5 is great. Ruger said my 280AI is a lazy 1:9.5. I’m going to call them back tomorrow to confirm since some sources claim it’s 8.5.
