Degtyaryov aka DP27 aka DP28 .

Designed by Mr D mid 1920's , approved late '27 , started to issue early '28 . Several production changes , to either speed production , or minor improvements .

Standard Russian LMG in WWII . Filled same roles as British BREN gun . Similar size and ROF . Larger magazine than BREN , but still being magazine instead of belt fed was limiting factor for both .

In '50s the RPD served alongside , replaced by PK in '60s .

But some of the gazillion produced have been used in combat somewhere in the world ever since .

I agree with your assessment of Putin but I doubt the Russian soldiers are nazi thugs... just young men who were conscripted and told this is what they have to do....
I doubt that out of the 3.5 million German soldiers that were killed in WWII very few were nazis....

Putin wants Ukraine because it was "historically" part of Russia...

But they took some of Finland, and Japan which were not, so... wasn't Alaska part of Russia? Maybe they want THAT back?

I'd have said California... they're as far left as you're likely to get and likely to be comfortable learning Russian. They had no problem with Spanish.

Wanting land that you once had means that if we, the U.S. ever does decide to give reparations to blacks for slavery, the blacks will be needing to get it from the Native Americans, that 'logic' means we need to return the land back to its original owners.....

The only thing Russia has been good at historically is throwing young men into the meat grinder... 20 -30 million just in WWII... only country better at this is China.
