I have not seen anything about this incident in the mainstream news, no surprise, it is real news.
I do not know what exploded at the 2:10 mark, but it was a really huge explosion. Another big one at about 3:10

You'd think with our media's sudden obsession with all thing Putin, that one of Ukraine's ammo dumps suddenly just exploding in the middle of all that ongoing Russo-Ukrainian mutual saber-rattling might raise a few eyebrows, no?

And I'm not sure the people filming the blasts were far enough away, what with all those Grad rockets cooking off and flying every which way . . . :shock:

I spent the latter part of my career with the Navy working on making our munitions safer. The program title was Insensitive Munitions. The Army and Air Force were dragged into it because the Navy told them we would not ship their dangerous munitions. Munitions in a fire (fast cookoff) was a big part of the program. Modern explosives will not detonate like that when caught in a fire. They generate enough pressure to rupture the warhead or bomb case then just burn in place. The problem is that these safer explosives are more expensive than the old TNT milt cast explosives you are seeing in this video.

We also design our rocket motors such that they will not go propulsive when caught in a fire.

Those older bombs are also shock sensitive and have been known to detonate when accidentally dropped. In Port Chicago, during WWII, dropped bombs killed 320 people when, in all probability, a wench failure dropped a load of bombs into a half loaded munitions transport ship and the whole works detonated.

Perhaps the all time record belongs to the French. During WWI, a French ship loaded with bombs was pulling into the harbor at Halifax. That French ship caught fire after colliding with another ship at a speed of 1 knot. The resulting detonation set a new world's record for the largest man-made explosion and killed about 2,000 people.

That record stood until 1945 when the lads at Los Alamos set off the Trinity atom bomb.

So what are you saying? I understand what you wrote, but do you mean this explosion is from older munitions? Do you think this is something besides an ammunition dump explosion?

On a side note, after living in Eastern Europe (Bulgaria) for almost 4 years, I find it so strange America was "worried" about Russia and its satellite countries being able to strategically fight against us. From what I saw, all their infrastructure was so out of date they would have had a hard time fighting their way out of a wet paper sack.

My great aunt lived through that Halifax ship explosion. They thought it was an invasion. It blew out every window for miles.

Boston area sent workers and glass to help them, and they still send down a huge Christmas tree every Christmas to say thanks.
