The Unions have positives and negatives. If you died on a job your family would be left to fend for themselves. If 7 16 hour days ground you to death there was someone wanting to fill your spot. When you see pictures of people building skyscrapers remember there was a line of people waiting for one to fall. Workplace safety, living wages, the weekend, benefits for people and their families all because of unions.

I have life insurance. No union needed for that. I also have a choice when it comes to employers. I would not CHOOSE to take a job that worked me 7 days a week. Again, no union needed for such. We have OSHA and the local Fire Marshall. No union made makes my work environment safe. My wages are higher than average in my area because I am better at my job with more experience than average. No union sold me high. I could go to any other local business similar to mine and get a 10% raise at minimum but I stay for year 23 here because it's MY CHOICE. The only absolute regarding unions is the fact they increase consumer cost.

The UAW initially sought pay raises for union autoworkers amounting to 40% over the course of a four-year contract, as well as a 32-hour work week and enhancements to benefits – while the automakers initially offered raises closer to 20% over a new contract with about 10% provided upon ratification of the new contract.

Ford and the UAW agreed to raise wages by 25% over the four-and-a-half-year contract with cost-of-living adjustments and an immediate 11% raise upon ratification. The agreement between Ford and the UAW would be tentative until it's ratified by the union's membership through a majority vote.

While no one knows the exact numbers it looks like the union is accepting less than the current full time employees were offered on day one so they could increase “temporary“ employees pay. Seems like a win for the union and not the workers…typical.

At this point the workers will never recoup what they have lost. Nothing new there.

It’s not about the workers ….. they’re only the tool. As I said earlier, the front line worker is like what blacks are to Democrats.

My point was that I have never heard of a strike where the conditions or wage increases (in say the last fifty years) ever resulted in a net positive for the employees.

Well here at the Dallas PDC, the suits had been trying to keep us supplied but when the news of the strike breaking occurred, they stopped. So now no one is working orders and we're getting nothing. See? The union really helped. We're so much better off, even with a strike, right? Losers!

And if you like going to the casinos to gamble a lot of those unionized workers are walking the picket line too.
Don't forget airline workers, from the baggage handlers to the pilots.

But I agree, the unions have infiltrated way too many professions. Serve no purpose other than to raise prices, decrease service, elect Democrats ( the sworn enemy of the 2A ) and promote mediocrity in their ranks.

Do those parts not show as backordered when the order is placed or are they just screwing up the order fills?
When our vendors do that crap they generally receive an irate phone call...it does no good but usually makes
me feel better for the effort. I figure if I'm pissed about crappy service it should be fair game to piss them off by grumping about it.

Just missing parts that are on the packing slips, most usually appear the next day but then I'm missing a new set of items. If you order 100 parts for ten different jobs and you're shorted one part for each job the warehouse would consider that 90% efficiency but from my end it's 100% failure.

All this discussion has made me think. I was planning to buy (order) a new GM car early next Spring. With a high percentage of workers not signing the contract, I wonder what the level of quality will be on newly built cars.

In my younger years I worked in auto collision for 10 years and then taught it for another 15 in a college. This was during the time when "foreign" cars started coming onto the scene. They were considered junk and many shops wouldn't even touch them. I worked in a GM shop for many years and cringed when a Ford or Chrysler product came in as I felt the GM produces were made much better. Then I moved to a larger city and the first car I was given to work on was Honda Civic in the late 70's and it was a dream. When I started teaching we really got into the laser and computer measuring systems, ultra high tech for that day. I soon learned that most all US made cars were horribly built, tolerances were over three times higher for a US made car versus European and then Asian. That was several years ago. I got out of that world and into higher education but today I steer away from the domestic models and would favor Honda, Toyota, BMW and own a Subaru as well. The only US vehicle I would consider is a GM truck and I passed on them in favor of a RAM a few years ago and have been very happy with it. One mans opinion.

New vehicles are in general approximately 1503123 times better initial quality than the old days. And they're that many times more complex.

Very little of my time is taken up watching TV.
A major part of the local economy is the largest casino in the US but I don't go there other than to play golf. Pretty sure the porters and cart girls aren't union.
I haven't been on an airplane since the 1990's.
Just walking the anti-union walk.
