U.S. POST OFFICE, What A Joke!

Two months ago, I ordered a set of grips for my Norinco 9MM pistol. When they did not arrive
on the scheduled date, I waited a week and notified the USPS to start a search. In the meantime,
the package arrived on the 2nd of September. (Same day I notified the USPS)! Wednesday, of this week,
The 2nd of November, two months to the day,
I received an apology in an email from the USPS saying they could not find the package.
They included the tracking number of the item in the email.
I opened the USPS website and entered the number in their tracking page.
I was informed that the package was delivered! I guess nobody at the USPS knows how to
track a package using the tracking number.

Blackie, it's getting to be typical of the USPS. I had a package that was supposed to go overnight from ten miles away. Two weeks later it showed up. And guess what, they will not refund the price of overnight. Seems if you read the small print it isn't guaranteed. It's just sort of a suggestion to the employees.

I'm to the point that none of my bills arrive by mail except ones that can't be done electronically. I will not send anything via USPS. If someone is shipping something to me and I have options I will not use USPS.

Wow!! I have no problems with the postal system at all. The mail-person comes by every day and puts the mail in my mailbox, a lot of unwanted stuff but that isn't their fault. If I order something it seems to get here right away especially from Amazon. If it is a package the mail-person comes to the door and drops it off unless it requires a signature and in that case they wait for someone to answer the door. Considering all the other things I have to deal with the post office is pretty dang reliable.

I USPS exclusively. UPS and Fed Rex have well known track record of breaking recurve bows that USPS does not have.

And don't forget the reason you are quite often stuck with $50+ overnight shipping fees. (if your FFL won't deal with USPS) It is due to UPS's fix for their own internal thievery and Fed Rex seeing a good way to make more money since "the other guy is doing it."

Its too easy to pick on the postal service. with all the mail and packages they handle, s**t happens. Life's a beach, then you get sand in your crack!

I've had UPS steal, lose and misplace delivery of very expensive TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE medications to my house in Southern Arizona, to the point that I will NO LONGER DO BUSINESS with any company that uses them, including the Veterans Administration!

Oh, I guess your grips are a matter of life saving necessity to you, but I think my insulin might matter a bit more to me.

I too depend on medications. I am 83 and require my meds. And they come through the USPS.
No, my grips are not a matter of life saving necessity to me, but they bring a little joy to my
old bones. This was submitted as a reminder that some things in life are humourous

Our local post office was closed, but now I see they have a bid open for a new post office building lease, we can hope, meanwhile I have a drop box in Monett Missouri, cost half what USPS charges for a mailbox per year

I've only lost packages shipped by the USPS from Ebay. The seller always claims the USPS is at fault. However, it has ONLY been from Ebay, nowhere else. Makes me wonder who is really losing packages, USPS or the "reputable" sellers at Ebay. I'm going to side with USPS on this one. The last time it happened was a year ago. To make a long story short the seller really mucked things up in some very unusual ways.

However, we use USPS when shipping birthday gifts and casual whatnot's back to family members in Europe. Never a problem. I recently sent a computer hard drive to my Mother in Law, it got to Bulgaria in less than 10 days from DFW. Not too shabby.

My wife sent a picture of a vase we wanted to sell to Sotheby's in NY city registered mail.... don't ask me why, but signature was required.... you can track the letter all the way to leaving the post office in NY and then that is it... it disappeared... no signature. I'm thinking someone in route thought it might have a check in it.... few weeks later we sent the same picture regular mail and it made it.

But I kind of have to agree with Jimbo.. they do an amazing job 99.9% of the time.

Yesterday UPS delivered a package.... correct address on the package but wrong name and not something we had ordered... my wife had to talk to 4 different folks at UPS before finally getting someone who knew how to send a pick up order.

front door, and an hour (or so) later have their tracking still show the
package in another state.

Each time this happens, I try to talk with the regular delivery person, and
I make sure I do not have it sound like I blame him. I try to make it a
"just out of curiosity" type query. Several of these times the deliveries
have run very smoothly, for the next few weeks.

Phrased another way, some of their people are very good and do their
best to have things work the way they should. It does seem evident that
they are not in the majority. Oh well.

On the flip side, I had a package delivered last week and the mail carrier's dust cloud was still visible when tracking showed the item delivered.

I could give all sorts of statistical information about how/why USPS does many of the things they do(not all are logical or even close to) but most folks already have their minds made so facts and figures won't make a dent unless the paper they're written on is wrapped around a baseball bat and delivered cranially(I don't think that's really a word but it should be).
I'm somewhat biased since USPS fed me, clothed me, and kept me in whiskey and guns my entire life(well at least until I quit drinking).

As a Seller on eBay, I respectfully disagree with the 1st part of your statement. I've sold fishing lures on the site for 6 or 7 years now, I suppose. About once a year, I will have a package that does not arrive to its destination on time. I print postage off of eBay or PayPal site. Of course, it prints the address that the Buyer has listed to ship to. A couple of those times it doesn't show up, the Buyer has given me a royal cussing accusing me of not sending the item. However, when buying postage from PP or eBay, it also has a conf. # and is scanned in at the local post office and then also at the 1st distribution center which in my case is Shrevport, LA. On the few occasions that the package gets lost, it has ALWAYS shown to have been scanned in at the Shreveport location. And BTW, only 1 time has the package failed to show up. Sometimes it has taken 2 months to show up and when it has, the Buyer has always let me know that the stamp showed it was mailed on time. The only package not to have shown up still says that it is enroute to its destination in Iowa (after 4 months now). So...if a package shows to have been scanned in, how is it the Seller's fault? I realize that everyone says it is the Seller's responsibility to make sure it arrives at it's destination, but in reality, if it was actually shipped...it is out of the Seller's hands as long as it was packaged properly. I have had to refund the the purchase price + shipping if the package has not arrived in 2-3 weeks depending on how much h--- the Buyer raises. And so I have refunded money only to have the package show up in a few more days. Usually then I don't get the money back. And as I said, in EVERY case, the package was stamped on the day that I showed it to have been shipped. It has nothing to do with eBay as long as it has been scanned in on time...in those cases it rests solely on the USPS.

My complaint about USPS is that as a semi-government operation, no one is accountable. My prior mailman would put a large piece of black tape on my mailbox if I set up a vacation stop. When I complained that this sends a signal to anyone who comes by that I am away, the answer was that he needed that to remind him not to put mail in the mailbox. For the several years he had me on his route I would not use vacation stops, but had to arrange for a friend to come by and pick up my mail. My new deliverer has a brain and handles vacation stops without signaling the world that I am away. Complaints to “management” did nothing. They would shrug and say it’s up to each employee how to do their job. Complaints to UPS or FedEx get acted on right away

FedEx does it too. They call it Smart Post. In fact FedEx, UPS and USPS also flies each others cargo if there isnt room on the plane.

But yeah they do that when a destination is off the beaten path or to avoid goinf a long way for just one item.
USPS has to go there every day. Let them do the final delivery.

Yes! And it's not a very good system. They only do the hand off with smaller, low value shipments. Now I receive quite a few packages for work via UPS. The fellow who normally delivers is, frankly, now a friend. But, he has always made sure that things were delivered to a human being, never left "on the stoop".

The USPS on the other hand is quite like Fed Ex in that they will sometimes put things outside at the door if no one answers in .25 seconds. But most of the time for stuff at home both the UPS and Fed Ex literally just throw it over the fence.

Stuff at the office is better in that Fed Ex is supposed to get signatures (we always request that things be signed for as do most of our suppliers) so they generally come inside.

We don't have a mail box at the office so USPS also comes inside. Now, if the USPS can take the time to deliver things properly to a business, why can't they do it at a residence?

USPS always gets a signature for firearms. FedEx does the same. I have a friend
in Houston Tx, that owns a gun shop off the beaten path, UPS will bring packages
to his shop and if nobody answers the door, they leave it on the porch!
many times it is a firearm.

USPS doesn't own any planes, they have a contract with Fed Ex to fly the "mail" but also use regular passenger airlines.

UPS and Fed Ex don't choose how to ship packages that is done by the shipper, and is usually for free or low cost shipping.
They often will deliver one package to USPS and one to you house on the same day.

I just received a stock that was 3 days late shipped by USPS, Aint the first time they have missed up, I have good luck with the big brown truck and from now on I will be demanding things shipped UPS and also if I have to pay by money order I will use WESTERN UNION.

Gee...no kidding...?
But the reason they turn things over to USPS for final delivery id because they save money by not having to run a truck to Timbuktoo for just one package. USPS must go there daily.
Btw I use UPS Campus Ship almost daily.
