I was just sitting here and my mind wanders off on to odd firearm ideas , I know i am not the first on this one and am wondering if anyone has had parts of the single actions nickle plated , Care to post some pictures ? Just wondering how it would contrast with maybe the gripframe and hammer in nickle , Now i was also thinking that by nickle plating my 45 colt cylinder that is one of the oversize with throats that measure .454 and that it would tighten up the throats a bit , I dont have a problem with the oversize throats shooting cast bullets as i have worked up a nice load. This is on a bisley from the mid 80s .Typically how thick is nickle plating on firearms ?

I don't know but I made this from a beat up half-lug GP that was pretty loose, and some stainless parts from a cut up police trade in. Added a Trijicon mini-dot and it's a neat looking shooter IMO.

I got burned on the GP, bought it used for $400 and it turned out to be pretty much an abused gun, lots of endshake......so, the idea came into my head to make a two-tone GP. The red dot idea was accidental, I saw the JPoint mount online, I already had a Trijicon mini dot laying aorund that would fit it, and I was like "Yeah that would be a bad ass setup for my two-tone GP100!"

Just got this one back from the smith last month. The two-toned effect worked out pretty good. No nickle-plated parts installed though--they are all stainless.

I don't mind my large .455-6" throats so much, I find a .454" cast bullet nicely accurate. I have thought of plating to tighten up the oversize chambers themselves, don't like the "Linebaugh bulge" and "neck sizing", but have doubts that the plating would last in the throats... :?

Maybe someone knows more about this theory.... :wink:
