I would like to know what ammo, those who have a AR 556 & Mini 30 7.62x39mm use just to shoot for range shooting? The best cheap kind of ammo? Thanks to those who help me out.

any decent factory brass 223/5.56 should be fine in an AR. the mini 30 is a delicate topic as most folks (including myself) haven't gotten factory mini 30 to run reliably on steel ammo. best i ever got was ~10% misfire rate. back when i owned a mini 30 I got myself a stash of brass PPU ammo. once i ran out of that i sold the rifle since I simply see no point in owning a 7.62 x 39 that can't run berdan primed steel ammo.

Many here reload and seldom shoot factory ammo. It's cheaper and more fun to roll your own.

Midway, Ammotogo, Abes, Luckey gunner, ... Run specials on 5.56 every week. Cheap enough that reloading doesn't make that much sense-well unless you enjoy it!
7.62x39 is different. Good quality ammo is available (brass with boxer primers) but can be hard to find and expensive. Definitely worth handloading.

I recently handloaded 500 rounds of 5.56 55 gr FMJs. I still saved about 2/3 of the cost of any of the big 3 ammo makers. It took 8 hours but, I work for myself for free.
I say if you stick with brass and buy Rem, Win or Fed ammo 55 or 62 grain FMJ I bet you will not have a problem. I am sure they are others just as good, I do not spend time and money to find out.

Between brass and steel,i'm going with the brass ammo with the Mini 30 7.62x39mm. I don't reload ammo so i'll just try both 223/5.56 with the AR 556. Thanks guys!

Lake City NATO in my AR 556. and Mini 14. M855 M193. Most of my shooting is my reloads. I buy the M855, 62 gr bullet from Pats Reload. Around $15.00 a hundred.

Freedom Munitions, PMC, Fiochi, Federal, Lake City, etc...every brass .223 and 5.56 I've tried has worked fine in my Ruger AR556.

I reload once fired Federal GI cases with bulk 62 gr bullets I buy online for my practice and plinking rounds for my several AR-15s, and my Mini-14 in .223. I'm to cheap to spend .25 or .30 cents a round for the cheap factory stuff.

I reload for my Mini 14-30, brass and 123 g bullets can be a challenge to find. I don't own a AR style rifle, I do own a mini 14-5.56 I reload for that also. I do like the reloading, it is requires concentration. All my shooting is plinking at the range. I just want to hit what I aim at, I shoot to a 100 yards with open sights and can keep the shots in the center of the silhouette target. peep sights are easy to use, you just have to know where to hold on your target.
