TV time slot stability

Was rooting around looking to see when or if a CBS show had been renewed and came across an interesting fact. In the last 20 years CBS has had only two shows in the 8-9 pm time slot on Tuesday. . . JAG and NCIS. In the same time period NBC has had 32, FOX has had 33, an ABC has had 50.

Tough time slot to compete against. Wasn't NCIS a spinoff from JAG.

And the same actors keep showing up. Sometimes as the character they played on JAG, sometimes as others. And sometimes as leads in other Bellasadio, productions

As already mentioned, each of these is a Bellisario production, and since the early days with Magnum, PI and a couple of others, I think the opening line on each and every script has been "First, have fun!" From there, preposterous is good.

Dunno who said it, but this adage runs thru my mind every day, often many times:

"Life is a comedy for those who think, a tragedy for those who feel." That being said, thank you to all who conserve energy by not turning on your TVs so the rest of us can have enough to enjoy a laugh now and then. Man does not live by Fox News alone! :lol:

It took me a couple of episodes to quit comparing the new Hawaii 5-0 to the original and realize it's nothing but a pure romp! They do all kinds of references to other things to test your cultural awareness, media wise. Millennial baiting for lack of a better term? For example, Tommy Chong did a guest slot, and they went busting into his office (drug lords have offices in HI?) looking for a suspect, Dave.

I'm sure most of you know what Tommy answered... and I'm just as sure half the audience would have absolutely no idea why the other half might be rolling in laughter at the memories his "wait for it..." response brought back! It's TV, let's not take it seriously. That includes Fox News for a few of my acquaintances who give themselves ulcers watching their own version of Fake News.

Another hidden joke in the current Hawaii 5-0 came when they enlisted Jimmy Buffett's help as a drunken ex-pat Viet Nam vet, who was a permanent fixture in a local bar over there, to fly them into "enemy territory" in a rusted out leftover war era Huey. After a couple of margaritas--and no, that wasn't the joke--he fires the bird up and off they went in great trepidation complete with clouds of smoke, parts falling off and several repetitions of the question, "Do you know how to fly this thing?" How many of you knew Jimmy's a licensed general aviation pilot who owns several planes, I believe also a licensed multi-engine commercial jet pilot, AND he's a licensed helicopter pilot? Zing--there went another one over half the audience's head.

As I said, the show's simply a romp. Thassall... ;)

I have seen where references of 50 were made in early episodes of Magnum but no direct connection between the two.

Since we drifted into 50 territory, I must admit I think the new Kono is much easier on the eyes.

By the way, how many have noticed that the girl in the yellow bikini during the opening credits is the same one from the original 50. I wonder what she looks like today?

In one episode when he is given a mundane case Magnum says its like have Commander Magarett checking parking meters, or something like that.

I agree not a straight up spin off, but lots of references.
